My buddy's 440ex stroker has a strange clutch problem. After a few minutes of riding, the cable gets tighter. You can loosen it back up on the perch and it'll tighten back up. WTF??:huh We've also noticed that it had some blue colored steel plates a couple months back, we changed them then and replaced the clutch center. The other day we checked out the clutch, and it had 2 more blue plates. The basket does show a little wear, but you can't feel the grooves with your fingernail. The only thing I can figure is it's not getting enough oil to the clutch. Has anyone else ever had these problems??

my clutch was acting the same way last week but started slipping, when i took it apart there were three disks that were blue and the fibers were dry like no oil got on them, were your disks really dry to?

I don't think they were dry.

Are you sure you are torquing the clutch bolts and adjusting you cable right, it sounds like the clutches may be slipping a little and getting hot. That would cause the plates to blue.

Are you referring to the spring bolts? If so, I didn't see where there was a torque spec in the service manual. They are tight though.

did you let the plates soak in oil before you put them in?

Yeah, we soaked them overnight.

Honda 10w40. I don't think that the oil weight has anything to do with it. I've been running this oil in mine since 2000 with no problems like this.

There may not be a specific torque spec, but the bolts are supposed to be somewhat tight and equal torque all around. If you over torque them they won't work properly, just like if yo uunder torque them.
