I have an 05' 400ex, I started it and I had a hard time keeping it runnin, and I noticed blue smoke comeing from the exhaust on deceleration, my 400 is only 4 mos. old I have changed the oil 2 times, and always let it warm up fully before I ride, can anyone tell me what I might need to do to stop that from happening, I feel like my 400 is a POS and I know better. Please help

Thanks Shane

piston rings might be shot but being an 05 dont think that should happen

change brands and/or weight of oil you run.

make sure you arent over filling your oil.you clean your air filter on a regular basis?if your taking in dirt,it wont take long to eat up a set of rings

Thank all of you for the responses, I will tell what I run in my 400ex, I run Honda GN4 10w 40 the temperature here in texas is right about 50 degrees, I do take quite a bit of dirt but I recently put a brand new HMF filter on it and check the condition of it frequently, this condition just happened the last time I ran it which was last weekend, it was not doin this, so the condition just popped up out of nowhere. I am trying to think of anything else to help narrow it down, Thank you for the speedy reply when I figure it out I will post it and the cure I used

maybe your rings havent fully seated yet...?
may take a few more rides to break in your rings

If it is that new shouldn't you have a warranty? Take it to the shop and get it checked out by them...for free.

There is no way a new honda should be doing that, unless its a lemon!

Did you break it in properly? Getting on a new quad and ripping around on it as soon as you get it isn't good for the motor at all.

A little puff of blue when backing off the throttle at 8,000 rpm's is somewhat normal. I notice this from every Atv regardless of brand etc, that I follow on the trails. This is only when ridden hard. If it's bellowing out constantly, then make sure your oil is not overfilled.
