Well i figured i would ask the "experts" here on the forum ...I heard rumors many years ago of a 1987 model 3 wheeler 250r. I dont belive they were ever produced but I did see pictures of what was supposed to be one . It was white plastic with silver rims kinda like the 350x but it looked like factory honda plastic and deacals .This was supposed to be released to the USA but the ban restricted it so it was sent to canada in controlled quantity ... I am guessing i saw a very good fake unless there is truth to this" urban legend "

Ive heard the same thing, saw a few pics of 1, the "A" in ATC looked more like a tri-angle and it did resemble an 86 350x at a glance, not sure if it was real or not...sure looked like it:confused: :D

I started racing 3-wheelers in 1983. I remember seeing those pictures years ago but I cant recall any details. I do believe it was released in Canada.

hi, I'm from Canada and i can answer you about ATC 250R. It's not a urband legend, I know some people who got ATC250r, liquid cooled and air cooled. They're not very popular but not as rare as in ur country.

The 87 R and 350x were not imported to the US. www.3wheelerworld.com is on a search for the 87 atc 250r's and X's. Check out the site.

they defintley exhisted, a seat for a 87 was on ebay about a year or so ago, also a white headlight shroud(86 style shroud was seen), you only can get maier 85 headlight shrouds in white, unless this was a very rare aftermarket piece that was made.

I remember seeing a picture of an 87 atc 250r in an atv mag., according to the article, Honda released it in Canada but not the U.S. due to all the lawsuits that they were dealing with. If I remember correctly, it had white front and rear fenders, a red gas tank, & a blue seat. It would be sweet to find one of those to add to my garage.

They're pretty rare.

As most people know, the "1987" models don't come out on January 1st, 1987. The manufacturing occurs long before then, and the actual "1987" models come out late 1986, and continue through 1987.

When the ban occured in 1986, there were a few 1987 models already in production. They couldn't sell them in the U.S. because of the ban, so they released them in other countries. I don't think they were limited only to Canada, I believe they also had them overseas.

So you have a limited quantity, AND they were released in other countries, so it is really rare that they make their way to the U.S.

there was 87 trikes in the US, 200x, 200m, 200s, 250sx, big red, tecate 3, and some more, but the high pro models weren't in the US. The 87 200x isn't all that rare.

From what I've heard, some were actually shipped to US dealers but were instructed to disassmble them and cut the frame - a waste. I imagine some of the parts made it to consumer hands somehow or another.

If that's true, I'm sure there was a hand full of them, that whoever was instructed to cut them up, just kept the parts for themselfs.

prior to me getting my trx250r i bought, referbed and sold a couple of atc350x's to get money for my trx. the first was an '86 and the last one i bought was infact a 87 atc350x. had i knew then, what i know now i would have kept it. i kept up with the buying, selling or trading of the trikes for awhile but, i lost track as to what happened to them over the years. they were plush!!!!

That 87 seat is in my basement, wrapped and put away for now. I didn't see that headlight shroud but I'm sure there are some more 87 parts floating around somewhere.

I saw on 3ww a guy had a 85 atc250r with factory honda white fenders, white radiator shrouds and a white headlight shroud. The story is, he got them from a dealer about 10 years ago as a replacement for his broken fenders. Yes, they are out there, very very very rare.
