The brake pads on my 400 are worn down. How would I put on new ones? How do you take it apart to put them on? Right now I think it is just the rotor rubbing on the shoes. The machine wont roll, it just makes a scratching noise. Any help would be appreciated.

i just bought new pads and put them on, havent rode it yet do to bad weather. The old ones were shot. just pieces of scratched up metal.
sparkles too lazy to put those pads in yourself?
i just put new ones on my 300ex
its pretty easy
The rears are simple to replace
take the 2 12mm bolts out that hold the caliper on
remove the 2 bolts that go through the pads
pads should come out
when re installing push the piston back in
& back off your parking brake.

ANd while you're at it, buy the block off plate and eliminate the parking brake. Your brake pads will last longer.

 I just bought a 2002 Honda 400ex, and I had already replaced the rear brake pads. I was wondering if there is some brake pads that are around the same price as the Honda ones but last longer. I ride a lot of mud and dirt. I live in Canda and they were $70. Please tell me some companies, websites, etc. Thanks.

I like the way DP brand pads wear, but the stock pads last pretty well too. A lot of the cheaper pads won't last as long. Check and see if you're a victim of the E-brake dragging, that will wipe out pads in no time.
