Sorry to post the millionth jetting question but here it is.
My friend and i both have a 400ex with k&n filters and open airbox lids and have eliminated the choke with a 42 pilot jet. would a 152 main jet be too much for them? also, would it help to move the needle up or down a click or two? they run fine but i was wondering if doing any of this will help it run any better.

depends on your elevation, temp, ect.... run the 152 and do a plug chop

but i dont think you would need to mess around with the jet needle until he gets an exhaust

in normal conditions here, a 152 or so sounds close. however, the temperature and elevation do matter. a plug chop is taking out the bike and flooring it in 5th. then quickly pull in the clutch and shut teh bike off. roll to a stop and read the spark plug. these days it is harder and harder to get a good reading from plugs though.
