I just got done with my winter rebuild and I can't get my 450R to start in the cold.

I have a 03 CRF FCR (that I bought new) on my quad and I need some help in getting it adjusted.

I wamed up the shop yesterday to 65 degrees and it starts and runs great but 40 or 50 it doesn't want to start or run.

Any I deas would help. I have a XC race in the morning with a dead start!

I posted this in the PowerTrain section first but more people here.

Give us some more info.

Pilot jet size?
Main jet?
Fuel screw?
Needle clip ?

OK

Is is just as it came out of the box.

Main is a 165
Pilot not sure.
fuel screw 2 turns out
Needle clip in the middle.

I run a K&N with a Outerware, No air box lid, Stage 2, 13.5-1 JE, Ported and a DrD slip on.

My setup is similar. I'm running a 45 pilot and 185 main. The stock needle position seemed best for me. The 45 pilot was 1 or 2 sizes over what came in the box. Runs like a stripe assed ape with this setup, but I'm in Calif (ran great at dumont dunes). I'm probably a shade rich on the main, but I'd rather play a little safe. I'd venture to guess that you need to step up a size on your pilot, which I believe should be 42 out of the box.

Good luck!

Definetly go up to a 45 or 48 pilot the stock one is a 42 and is way lean at least on my quad

i tried the 48 and got popping and it was blowing flames past the SA - a little rich ya think? I was trying to mellow out the glowing pipe problem, but it seems to be common with stock or aftermarket pipes, so I went back down to the 45 and all is running well -- plug looks good and making good power

I taked to a freind on sunday and he said to set the compretion release to .025, I had it set to .006 which is what it said in the service manual.

I ordered a new Pilot but don't have it yet.

I did set the air screw to 1-3/4 and set the compretion release, Now it starts a lot better. Should be great when the new pilot jet comes in...
