Do the aftermarket chassis reduce weight on a 400EX? What is the best way to shave off a few pounds (besides me going on a diet, hehe)

Thanks...

you could remove the head light to save a few pounds maybe cut the fenders and take off the airbox lid and get a lighter aftermarket exuast thats about all i can think of but you would only be saving maybe 10 pounds

I noticed that most aftermarket axles are quite a bit lighter than the stock axle. The stock axle seemed a lot heavier than my axle with billet hubs by about 5-6 pounds.

Are the aftermarket swing arms any lighter?

i wouldnt think so,i would say go with billet stuff and alumnim sprockets they help the motor out, just that much less pds the motor has to spin

Shocks and axle are about the heavest bolt ons you can change. Marvin shaw shocks and an aluminum axle would take off a bunch but both are very pricey.

but aren't the shaw shocks for drag?

you could change your front shocks out for some FOX gas shocks they are pretty light

I dont get it, how will taking off 5 pounds make an atv perform any better? I could see like 20-30 pounds

5 lbs won't make it perform any better, but if you can 4 or 5 of the 5lbs, well, you get the point...

you probably wont notice it but it will perform better. less weight = quicker. shave where you can :D

The Mrs. suggested getting rid of the lump between my shoulder, but took it back saying would only save an ounce or two.

i promptly replied about another extremity that would easily by 15 or 20 pounds (WHOA) hehehe...

do you race, if so get rid of everything you don't need: lights, handlebar switches, get rid of the airbox completely, shrouds, and get lighter tires, exhaust, etc.
