So the 416 kit is a big bore? i assumed they would give you a sleeve. Doesn't it make the sleeve really thin? And if i were to do it with the 10.8:1 piston and xr cam would i have to worry about blowing up the bottom end? like the crank and stuff?

u bore out ur stock sleeve .80 for the 416 kit... u don't have to resleeve untill u get a 440 kit... the sleeve is thinner on the 416 and if u are worried about heat u can put on air scoops and a larger high capacity oil tank... i have a 406 with 10.8:1 compression and the tc mx cam and i have had no problems with it... the increase in power is amazing and well worth it!!!

ok im lost if you want to put a 416 kit on a 400 all you have to do is bore it out .080 over. IM lost that should only add a couple of cc's. How do you gain like 20 cc's This is boggeling my mind. Am i stupid or just mising a crucial point. Help please!!I really want to know

so, does it make enough more power to have to worry about the bottom end? like the crank and stuff?

You don't have to worry about anything in the bottom end with a 440 either unless your running more than 11:1 compression.

Check out this site. http://www.web-cars.com/math/displacement.html It will calculate the displacement based on the bore and stroke and number of cylinders that you enter.

The stock 400 bore is 85mm and stroke is 70mm which equals 397cc. If you go one mm over, you get 406cc, 2mm over, 416, 3mm over, 425 etc.

Hope this helps.

with the 416 or the 406 or 425 do you or have had any overheat problems. my stock bore gets pretty hot. i would think the 440 kit would be better because of the new sleeve? educate me!

the 440 kit runs hot...period..lol
if you go that way..get an extra oil cooler and some air scoops...I wouldnt recommend it as a trail riding engine setup
the 416 rocks...Ive rode a few of em and I think they are faster...I believe the piston is lighter which allows it to rev a bit better...either way if you dont like it...400ex oem cylinders are cheap as ****...and youll still have the oem piston...hehe the choice is yours

The 440 will run hotter becase even though you install a new sleeve, there is less material overall (between the new sleeve & the cylinder) to dissapate the same amount of heat (or more heat with higher CR's). The 406, 416 & 425 will run hotter than a stock bore 400, but not by much. Installing larger jets will help some, & you can always use air scoops &/or install a larger oil cooler. You also would want to change your oli a little more frequently/religiously just to protect your investment. Anyway, so long as the motor is tuned correctly & maintained properly, you win't have any problems.

No matter which of the bores you decide on the motor will produce more heat.

What is happening is that when you increase a engines ability to produce power you also increase heat, and this can be from other methods than just over bores.

A little trick for undrstanding this is to think of an engine as a air pump. The more air that it can move the more power it will create. Now understand that in order for the engine to produce power it must mix this additional air with fuel to produce the explosion that powers the piston.

Its the larger amount of air and fuel creating a larger or stronger explosion in the cylinder that creates the additional power and also additional heat.

You could also think of it as: heat = power So more HP or torque means more heat.

Hope that helps.
