Bring the vin number down to probably your suzuki dealership, they could probably run the number and find the year. I know that if you take it to a police station, you can find out if it's stolen or not, you might be able to find the year there.

Also with most quads there are little subtle differences from year to year like the color.

does it have a full floater rear suspension or a more standard linkage like a 250r has on it? if it has the "standard" style it's either a 1991 or 1992. If it has a full floater it is 1990 or later and some of the really early models like around 1985 had a round honda style bear carrier i believe I'm not positive on that but one of the years has it and i'm almost sure it's the 85 I hope this helps if you could post a pic that would help me allot.

What is the 10th digit of the VIN? All motor vehicles produced from 1980 on use a 17 digit VIN and the 10th indicates year. Up to the year 2000 this will be a letter, after 2000 it will be a number. I have a chart for this, I'm gonna have to post it. Until then, get me the 10th digit.

If it looks like this , it's a 92 . LOL .... this is my old baby .... I wish I still had her !!! I'm not sure if 92 was the only year to have the weird seat cover and graphics .... hell I don't even know if that was stock or not ( was like this when I bought it) ... but I think that was the design back then .

I had a '91 that had those bizzare "giraffe" graphics on the seat...
Sweet bike until I let Cycle Tech (shop in Loves Park, IL) work on it. They did a full-on engine rebuild for me (to the tune of around $900) and after 4 hours of riding it seized up. Tore it down myself and found one of the inner cup washers at the piston had been dropped into the crankcase - smashed into a couple of pieces
When I called them and asked if they would consider accepting some responsibility for this, they basically told me to get bent. Almost made me give up quads for good.....

I hear ya !!! 3 weeks after I bought mine (used) I was out playing on the lake and decided to race a banshee . He had studs and I didn't . He had a lot of work done to his bike and I had a complete LRD motor . There was a nice thin layer of snow on the lake ... perfect for traction ... but half way down there was an ice patch for maybe 10 feet . I hit that wide open and didn't have enough time to pull in the clutch . Needless to say it cost me $1500 for a new motor cuz I cracked the crank in 3 places and seized the motor solid . I brought it to a shop here on Ontario ... Offroad Cycle and ATV in Port Hope Ontario ** BEWARE** ... they gave me the run around about not being able to get a crank so he took the engine out of another LT250 and replaced it . I didn't notice till I got home ( 6 1/2 hour drive) that I didn't have my LRD cylinder and head on the bike . When I called back asking for it , I got the run around and basically got screwed out of it . Almost made me give up on it all also !!!

BEWARE of Julien Denis owner of Offroad Cycle and ATV from Port Hope Ontario Canada !!!!

I picked up my Lt for $236 .. lol Why the odd number? Well all my neighbor wanted was shocks for his car so I bought him that.

Total price for the bike is $700 this is including the price of the bike and powder coating bolts, tires, rims ....

Elbow greese is not included in the total price and neighter is beer... damm come to think of it all that beer proably adds up to another $100:eek:  lol

She was fun to build ....

If she looks like this then she is a 86 lt250r lol

It has an '85/6 vintage seat, and the engine is raw metal color and looks like an 85/6 also. '87 nad up had blue painted engines and T shaped seats. My best estimate based on that picture is that you have an 85/6 with a swingarm from an 87+ model. If the engine is a 5-speed and says 249cc on the side of the jug, it is an 85/6;if it says 246cc and has a 6 speed tranny, then it is an 87+ engine. The swingarm for 86- is the traditional Honda type round carrier. In 87, Suzuki switched to the boxed bearing carrier, which is what they are still using today on the Z400.
