I am sure you are all aware over the problem steroid use is in pro baseball. I for one am a diehard Phillies fan.:( That sucks, I know. Anyway, I feel that it is a shame that baseball came to this, that it has gone from a national pastime to a sport whose image is a bit muddled. Personally, I dont think that as many players use steroids as is sometimes claimed. Maybe it's true though, who really knows?
Has anybody wasted their money on Jose Canseco's new book, Juiced? I havent yet, but am a little intrigued about it. He claims to be the "godfather" of steroids in baseball. Some of his claims in the book seem a little far-fetched, but I guess he has the insiders view. He claims that many high-profile players have been or are steroid users. That is a shame if it is true.
I think that if Barry Bonds indeed used steroids (yeah, he did admit to unknowingly taking them, but thats probably BS IMO) and if and when he passes Ruth on the homer list, I think that he should NOT be recognized as having done so, since he CHEATED.
Baseball used to be just a game. Players didnt really train as much as they do today, and it was more for just the fun of it.
There was an interview with Bobby Abreu (CF for Phillies) and he was told that he slimmed down quite a bit as compared to last season. (He used to be a bit bulked up). Anyway, then he was asked how he did it. He was like, "Um, well, uh, you know, I just watched what I ate and really didnt exercise as much as I had in previous years" (something along those lines). My point is, he seemed uncomfortable or even unsure as to how he slimmed down. I instantly thought that maybe he was on something. It is a shame that that thought jumped right into my head, because he always seemed like a decent player, one that wasnt into all that crap. And he probably isnt. All the media attention to steroids have caused me to instantly be suspicious of certain players, and that isnt good, especially if those players never did them.
Just a thought, if baseball has all these problems, just think how bad football or basketball might be, you know? I dont mean to make an unnecessary connection, but it does jump out at me as a real possibility.
I love sports, especially baseball, and think that it is a shame that is has come to this. Hopefully there is more hype than fact in this case, but the opposite may prove true
:(
