I looking to buy another quad and was wondering what you guys think the best quad is for trail riding. I am an average rider that doesn't do a lot of jumping or MX type stuff, but like fast woods and trail riding. I already have a '99 400ex, but think I will let the wife ride that while I try something with a little more power. I am bigger guy at 6'4" and 250+ lbs. I have been thinking of all kinds of quads like the KFX400, Z400, Raptor 660R, Predator, etc. I am looking for a quad that has reverse ( a very nice benefit my friend has been showing me with his '05 KFX400) and electric start. I am looking for something that can run balls out or be just as happy tooling around (one nice thing about 4 strokes).Give me your input on what would be the best quad for me and why. I like the Predator, but I am not sure of the reliability or support Polaris has for its quads. I would love a YZF450 or the 450R but no reverse and no electric start kinda sucks. Like I said give me your thoughts. Thanks for the help.

the 05 Z/KFX would be a good pick if you are ruling out both of the 450s.

sounds like you need a z/kfx

I don't know if i would rule out the 450's. It's not as bad as you think because you don't even need reverse really unless your breaking a new trail. I have never ridden a YFZ but i know my 450r starts really easy. I love it for the woods as soon as i dropped the front sproket one tooth. I'm sure a kazukicat would be a blast too though.

look at the V-force, real nice bike for the trail and woods, especialy(sp) for taller guys. 700cc fully auto, reverse and electric starting. plus these bikes leave the starting line hard.

those v forces are great trail quads, they can go through a lot of stuff, very versatile, have good power, easy to ride, etc etc

ive ridden one before and it was a ton of fun for trails

The only thing about the V force is that it is a huge quad. Some of the trails we ride are kind of narrow and I don't think it would fit. I know it was a squeeze with the 400ex so ........... What does everyone think of the predator. It sounds like Polaris made one hell of a machine, I just don't know about reliability.

the v-force is actually half an inch narrower than the predator. ;)

v-force- 47"
pred- 47.5"
kfx/z400- 45.9"
400ex- 45.3"

i'd veer away from the polaris's...they have quite the reputation

Someone told me that you can get a electric start with the YZF450. Can anyone confirm or deny this. I could live without the reverse (my 400 doesn't have it) but the electric start is just so nice. I have really noticed I get a little lazier with every year. The Z or KFX sound like they are the ultimate trail quads, though.

The YFZ has a button, no kicker.

Personally, I would get a 450R. I would stay away from a v-force 700. They weigh a lot, and they are an automatic, which a personally hate with a passion. Raptors break to much, so I woul dget a Z or a 450R.

i have never had any problems with my pred and it rips down the trails. I have an 03 and they say that is the worst year for the pred. I ride mostly trails and abosoutly love it. Plus the 05's have reverse and more power. If you go with the pred you will not be dissapointed at all.

I say you pick between the Z/KFX 400, 400EX, or V-Force

I still think with your weight and size you will be more happier on the V. But good luck on your choice.:)
