over the winter i decided to rebuild my R into a budget racer. i made my own gussets, welded them in myself , sandblasted it, and sent it to pappy to get coated in translucent red. ill have more pics to follow soon as i start the reassembly.

this is where most people seem to be having their frames crack. i took a 1in id steel tube and notched to fit around the frame. then i just welded all along the outside.

sorry that last one was of the front a arm support, not the shock mount.

this is the lower motor mount

this is the rear part of the frame where the linkage connects. its hard to see b/c of the shadow but when adding a gusset to the shifter side of the frame, try not to make it to high b/c it will interfere with the chain roller.

Dam dude good Idea with the 1inch ID tubing!
Was it chromoly tubing that you used? or mild steel?

thanks shark, sportrax10 its mild steel. ill post more pics of the the other areas that are important to gusset like the front shock mount and the rear upper a arm mount.

Good job, man. I have access to a machine shop and have been wanting to make my own gusset kit. But never knew the sizes and material specs. It would be nice to have a gusset kit "in hand". Then, I could measure and draw each gusset.

Glad to see you went with the same route I did, by doing it yourself. Looks good. Don't let the bashers get to you like they did me. Be proud of what you did.

Looks good to me, I think when I do mine, i'm going to have that tubing done on about 2/3's of that top frame rail, just to be extra strong, lol.

My frame is done the exact same way, except with a few minor differences. But same design...it seems to be holding up fine. I've got 2 months of good MX racing on it now. So far so good....

looks good, need to replace that radiator though. As soon as you get it back together, I'll be over with mine to tear it down. The new p/c gun should be here tomorrow.

i couldnt tell you how much stronger it will make the frame but i know the stock frame has a few stress point on it where cracks can apear(from what ive read). when you gusset a frame you add support or make certain points of the frame stronger and hold up under more stress(bigger jumps, rougher trails, etc) allowing the stock 450r frame be able to handle more abuse.
