Hey everyone. I am 14 and looking to get a quad. I will get a job and everything later on but for now I was wondering what is the best quad. I am looking for a low matenance sport quad and I was going to go with the KFX400. I then found out that my cousins boyfriend works for Honda! I can get a deal on a TRX450R but im not sure how much. Which is the better quad out of the two(KFX400 vs. the TRX450R). Thanks for helping me! please add me to your MSN if you can and we can chat(if you want to).. I like people giving me advice on quads.makes my decision easier...or just email me.

thanks...but i forgot to mention that im not a small guy.. im about 6'1 and 260 pounds. I have about 2 years experiance on a polaris 400 4x4... i forget the name of it but its always broken haha...im too rough on it. I think i would need new suspension if i bought a new quad because of my weight. Maybe not i dont know ... Im not formiliar with sport quads.. my spelling could be a bit better too i know haha.

Yes, your spelling could use a little improvement. ;)

Since you're rather big, (damn, thats a lot to weigh being just 6'1!) (j/k man), the 400ex might be a little too small, but only by a bit. You would probably not mind it at first, but once you got used to it, it might be a pain. I am 6'0 and the 400ex I used to have was a really good fit for me, but Im under 200 lbs. You cannot beat that machine for handling or doing wheelies. It has got to be the one of the greatest wheelie bikes ever made. Of course, power is only moderate, but adequate for a first-timer, unless your weight cancels some of it out.

I understand the 450r is quite the quad, possibly a bit too much for someone who has only ridden a utility. But then again, its your decision of course. The ex would be a helluva lot cheaper of course than the 450's.

If you feel that the power is adequate, do not hesitate to get the 400ex (or even the kfx). Others will go on and on about how little power the machine has, but that can be fixed.

the R will most probly be way to much for you coming off of a ploaris 4x4....hell it was alot of power for me coming off a fully modded 250r.....i would say go with the 400ex or kfx

Haha no man, I know im a big guy. But anyways, the R goes for what??.. about $10,000 in canada? and the KFX goes for 8,800 canadian.(I live in canada by the way). but with my cousins boyfriends discount, i might be able to get the R for about $9,200

Im not really looking for the top speed to be insane, I'm just looking for somthing easy to take care of. I heard you have to change the oil in the TRX450R every 10 hours of riding, which isnt bad but maybe theres somthing that is a little more better?

Hey, what are those amounts in American dollars?
Could you post a sort of conversion chart, or some way to do it so Ill know how to make the conversions?

if you're coming off of a utility, the KFX is the best choice out of the two. For a 400 its got a lot of power (my friends stock 05 Z400 will beat my piped and filtered 400EX), has a really good suspension, and just like your utility, it has electric start and reverse- two things you wont find on the R as of right now.

American
The KFX400-$5,800 USD
The TRX450R-$6,649 USD
Canadian
The KFX400-$8,799 CAD
The TRX450R-$9,549 CAD
And i dunno what they are with the taxes but i think you just add 15%..well for canadians anyways

15% :eek2:

damn.

IMO the best for you in this situation is the KFX/Z 400

the R will be too much for you, matainance wise and power. i dout you will be racing so there isnt a need for the 450r. the 400ex or a z400 would be a better quad, both have fetures you could actually use like the e-start and reverse.

yeah a cam, pipe, filter, and the correct jetting would make a 05 KFX competitive with a stock 450r.

however, it's usually the rider, not the machine, that counts.

dude i dont care how big you are....the 450r has ALOT of motor...and if your not racing you will be in hell without changing the gearing....if you want more power buy a raptor.....the 450r will likely kill you

I dont know about killing me but it could probably hurt me pretty bad. Well im positive it COULD kill me but if your a responsible rider then you have nothing to worry about. Im sure that if someone buys a new quad they will want to see how much power it has and everything like that but you cant do that unless you got experience. If you dont have alot of experience on a sport quad(like me) then take it easy for the first week or two and get used to it. Im not a retard when it comes to stuff like this, I dont think i would kill myself...... Thats my thoughts anyways.

I would get an ex, im about your same hieght and around 230, its just fine for power, you dont really need a 450 unless you want to race, but if your not why would you want to pay a couple g's more for something that you anit gonna use its for potential

Ok... Well it seems to me like you guys think i should get a 400 of some kind. But now the question is...KFX,TRX or the Z400??Yes the TRX is cheapest but my first choice was the KFX.Is Kawi's quad any good? I guess what im trying to ask is which is the better bike performance and endurance wise?

Canadian dollars
KFX400-$8,799
Z400-$8,699
TRX400EX-8,499

The Z and the KFX are the same thing, so if your getting one of the other, get the cheaper one.

Stevenf

Alright... but its only a hundered dollars differance so i would probably go for the KFX
