View Full Version : 400 ex engine mods! can i do them?

ok guys lsiten up! im very mechanicly inclined theres no problem there but i am going to have to jet my quad soon and i have not the foddiest idea how to work on quads! i mean can i do this i know the basics but ive never even taked the carb off a quad before! also i would like to someday when money permits get this 416 kit is it worht it? and how does it work? can i install it? its just a new piston and sleeve right? and is that hard to do? sorry to ask so many questions but im learning alot fast so thanks alot guys!:macho :macho :macho :macho

on the 416 kit u don' t have to resleeve ur cylinder... u just have to bore out the stock sleeve .80 over... also if u do the engine kit just the 416 won't give u anything u need to add a cam also... a xr cam is 120$ my tc mx cam was 205$...

bore it out? ok so youre talking big bucks i mean actually taking metal out? thats a little outta my ballpark there i thought maybe it was just a new piston and sleeve you could install or something! im a little new to tearing engines apart and rebuilding them! replacing them no problem but this is getting deep! lol thanks guys

I don't believe that having your cylinder bored out is all that expensive, depends on the shop of course. I think the guy that rebuilt my old 250R only charges around 50bucks for a bore and hone (I think) but it has been awhile since I talked to him.

i think mine was 30 to 40$ to get it bored out...
