Its it worth it to change fomr a 15T front to the 14T? How much top speed do you lose? does it make it alot better to ride trails and ride in the sand.

for really tight trails, i would say do it....but for the dunes, i would leave the 15 on there

I tried a 14t front sprocket and it makes a difference. Its great for closed in trails where you wont be going very fast. On the other hand, it made me lose quite a bit of top end, so i dont like it if im riding in open places. You should try them both and see which one feels better to you and your riding conditions.

The 14T is great in tight woods. You do lose about 5 mph though. But the trade off is worth it in my opinion. I'm not able to even get in 5th gear, except for a field or two. It's got so much low end with the 14T, I was amazed how easy it was to pull on stock Z400's through the woods. Just buy the counter sprocket and try it, there only like $12 through honda dealerships and you can change them in 10 mins or less. The 14t helps if you're running 22's in the back also, you get a little top end back and a bit of ground clearance.

I tried it and I think I spend to much time shifting I prefered the 15 tooth.

i have a 14 tooth and you do lose a little top end but for woods and trails it is a must. you can pull so many wheelies not even trying cause of bottom end. when i go to the dunes i have no problem going up and down but i do get my butt kicked in long drags cause 5th is worthless. try it out and if you dont like it, but the 15t back on!

i have a 14T front... and the best way to describe it would be...

5th gear with a 14T is like a toped out 4th gear with the stock 15T

hope that makes sense... i would say in order to get full advantage you really have to do a lot of tight woods trails....

thats what i ride and on some of the large straights and clearnings... my friend on a blaster kind of gains on me... its pretty gutless in 5th

go up 1 tooth on the rear sprocket instead, this will close the gap between 1st and 2nd, top end loss will be minimal, changing the front by 1 tooth is = to at least 2 teeth/ rear. i'm new to 4 wheelers but have raced mx my whole life, almost never changed the front size, it has to much effect. by changing the rear [add 1 tooth] i think you'll get the ratio youre looking for. yes its more $ for the sprocket, but results/feel is what you want.

I'm going to have to buy a new drive system soon. I was considering the 14t front but thought it would be too drastic a change. So I'm gonna go one up on the back instead (39t). I'll let ya know how it works.

If you think its too drastic just drop a tooth in the rear as well and run 14/37.

Yeah, I considered that, but I'm pretty happy with the gearing the way it is now (stock). My only complaint is when I get in really tight woods trails I'm feathering the clutch alot. That's why I planned on changing only 1 tooth (15/39). 14/37 would be the equivelant of two teeth.

I went from a 15 to a 14 and it worked great in tight trails! I then had C&D pimp my ride (see sig) and it was to low so I went back to a 15. I still think it could use a little tweaking so might change the gearing a bit in the rear sprocket.
