Z400 vs 450R

i have a Z400 with a procircuit exhaust, jetted, uni filter, hot cams, drz base gaskets, and a 15 tooth front sprocket. i was wondering with equal riding ability could i beat my friends 450r with a hrc cam, and a hmf slip on in a 300 yard drag race?

I would say the same, but I raced my friend the other day and he has a 450r, and we were right beside of each other when we let off. His bike is stock, my has rev box, powerflow filiter, and full yoshi pipe. I still was surprised with my bike running like that.
Now I'm not saying that i out ran him, but i am saying that we stayed right beside of each other. I know it don't sound right but thats the truth.

Maybe if the 450r was stock and you had lowered your front sprocket to a 13tooth.

15 is geared high 300yrds is not that far and you wouldnt get the jump on them with it.

Well my cousin has a 450r with LRD exhaust and the power up kit, and theres no chance in hell that my z would even come in the ballpark to staying near him,, But my Z is all stock,,for now!!!!

Don't get me wrong, my friends 450r is STOCK.
With just a few mods, i'm sure it won't even be close.
The 450r's are real fast, i was just glad that my bike was able to keep up.

i say if you had a pipe, air filter, jet kit, cams, cdi, smaller sproket cause the one you have is for top end and you lose bottom so he will shoot in front of you. but you might have a chance the HRC kit ive heard doesnt give you that much power but the pipe does cause the stock 450r pipe has so much restriction on it. so he might win by a hair.

when he raced my buddies stock kfx400 he only won by a quad length, that was when he didnt have the slip on. i can beat the kfx by about 5 quadlengths in 300 yards. the kid that has the 450r isnt the greatest of riders, so that will help me win. besides where this kid wants to race me we will have about 500 yards before we have to slow down, so will that help me out any?

the 450r sucks. My friends slightly worked z400 took a slighty worked 660r till they we around 4th gear. If your quad is worked and the 450r is stock u can take him.

I have a KFX-453 with head work, cams, exhaust, carb, excetera.
I Can take a YFZ or a 450r in every gear. Before I had all the work done I could stay with one but not pass them. Now I can walk on one of them.

my friend has a piped 450r and we drag all the time even though he always wins. he gets me out of the hole barely and just steadily pulls away from there. once i get my 440 kit put in, i think ill be a little closer to him.

When my 450R was stock i raced my buddy's DVX400 with a full Yoshi exhaust , jet kit , no lid and stage 2 hotcams and won pretty easily but it was a good drag. But when both quads were stock i would kill him , all his mods definitely helped out. When we race now it's really bad how bad i beat him with all my mods (in sig). He will be selling the DVX and getting a new suzuki 450 soon , so maybe then he can give me a challenge , actually im a little worried how fast that thing is since i own the "drag race crown" between all my buddy's. There is usually 6 of us. One has the DVX400 , the others are a YFZ450 with Sparks pipe , Raptor 660r with FMF system & jet kit , a new 400ex that's stock and an older 400ex with a 416 kit and HMF system. As for the Z, it is a great bike and modified can beat a 450. Heck, I watched a 400EX smoke every bike that stepped to it. There is no reason the Z couldn't do it......

i read somewhere that the top speed was 76mph?

i have a z400 with the motor mods in my sig and i beat a fairly decent amount of 450s. It isnt just the bike you know. Ive practiced and practiced drag racing and i get perfect shifts everytime i race. I also weigh 130lbs which helps me a lot. Rider can make a big difference in a race.

motor vs motor a 450r is faster. A z400 will take more mods to compete with a yfz or trx but that still doesnt mean that they are slow.

for the cocky guy with the 453..how much have you got in your motor though? you beat 450s, well good for you. If someone with a 450 spent as much in thier motor as you have theyd leave you in the dust.

The problem I have is when guys with stock 450's think their quad is all that and smokes every z400 out there. The truth is that the 450r is only 4-5 mph faster than the z400 with both machines in the stock form run down a paved road. They should..the honda has a horsepower advantage! But,the z400 with VERY little work can equal a stock 450r and when they get heavily modified like my machine , they smoke stock 450's very EASY. I get pissed when these people with stock machines put down z's and say the 450's kill them no matter what. These people need to compare apple to apples. If they want to compare their 450's to something , try comparing it to the yfz's or the new quadracer 450 that will be here very soon. So lets get a grip.. If I seriously thought my z400 wasn't competative with the 450's then I would buy one too.

I hear you, and know exactly what you are talking about... even though it will take a little more than very little work due to the 450s advantage with a larger, higher output engine. Just don't take everything quite so personally, I mean, you have said for yourself that the Z can be made every bit or faster, but unless worked the 450 is usually hands down faster.... a true statement, and again due to the fact that the 450 does have an advantage. I am not one of those guys... I love all bikes and though I sometimes, as with anyone, can feel affended and back my bike, it doesn't mean that I think that I or my bike is superior. I personally was considering getting a Z myself... but I have the 450r and EX, so I am in no need for another bike right now. Like said though, it really is all up to what you do in the first place which decides what is the better bike for someone personally....

I have riden a yfz450 and the 450r. they both are nice but.. I race in the woods and the 450's are not what I was looking for that type of racing. motocross racing, the 450's do rock. Just not in the woods.
