Need Help!! Starting Issue

my buddie has a 400 ex ..

very hard to start near imposible when cold and then you must keep it warmed up for future starts

is getting fuel [sprays gas in the carb when you hit the throttle ]

has good spark also ...

this quad has 416 kit [sparks] 12/1 comp big cam exhaust k&n

could this bike just have to small of a main jet ? it has a 155 is this stock ? we pulled out the plug and it is nearly white

Up the main jet you are running lean.. IM not sure what size jet you need but prob around a 170? Maybe higher.. A white plug means your running lean and thats not good.. It should be a light brownish color.

170? shew.. try a 162-165 and see how that goes.. 155 is not stock, 148 is.. and they all seem to be hard to start.. most people say by putting a 42 pilot from the 38 pilot that is stock is the key to easy starting.. i personally dont do it, the choke works fine for me... and jiggaman its nice to see you finally got one! cool beans!

Thanks man. The only reason i said 170 is cause he said he had a 416 kit on it so i thought it may be a tad higher.. I wasnt really sure what stock was either.. Just trying to help out.. IM still learning here lol.. outlaw#9 good luck :macho

well i tryed all that ...no luck ..im thinking at this point maybe a blown head gasket ? i wasnt able to take a comp test ..dose anone know what i should have ?

this is a 12 :1 engine im shure it was run to lean with the small jet [155] ... any help would be a help thanks again

How long did you run it that lean??

yea and what kinda fuel are you running.. a 12.1 would require basically some race gas.. 100 octane at least.. id pull your plug and try to check compression
