their are pics at the bottom of the page he has you linked to. Shocks do make a world of difference. they smoothout the ride and actually make you faster because it handle much better.

I would say get some works shocks (Front). Affordable and much better than stock. You will be amazed at how much faster you can go. Here is my XC warrior!

all you need is some skid plates and some 6 ply tires, kill switch and determination and shocks are REALLY nice.

heycrazyatvn how did you get your light to be red like that? I gotta do that.

crazyatvn
02-18-2005, 05:05 AM
They are tailights from a rig trailer. I just velcroed them on. They glow red they are great. At one race I passed a guy and after the race he said he thought he was getting chased by the devil.

I thought it was funny anyway I guess you would have to be there.

Hey crazyatvn, another question. What size tires do you have in the front, i know you have 22" in the back. Yeah and those lights are awsome.

hey rico or crazyatvn, does not having reverse play a big roll when you race?

crazyatvn
02-18-2005, 09:35 PM
I never had reverse so I don't miss it. I went from a blaster to a 250r to a 400ex. You get good at not getting in situations to need reverse but I am sure there are times when it would be handy.

honda_runner
02-18-2005, 10:31 PM
really, wow, I thought they were bigger, crazyatvn Nice quad by the way, I want mine to look like that, sweeet!!! If you ever decide to sell the rims or tires, I got first dibs.

Nope

It could come in handy sometimes but I don't think about and regret buying a 400ex. I go faster when going forward than going in reverse so I don't need it.....:eek2:

mine's in the process of being an xc beast. i plan on gettin either a blingstar "flight" bumper or prm "summit" bumper, some powermadd handguards, and nerfs

would i be fine with my white brother's slip-on, if not what tyoe of full exhaust would be preferrable for this type of racing?

jak1389
02-19-2005, 10:21 AM
i have also heard that a oversized gas tank would be really helpful. should i get one?

muddy400EX
02-19-2005, 10:24 AM
HMF full system and oversized tank:) you pretty much have everything else

crazyatvn
02-19-2005, 11:30 AM
As long as you keep the motor somewhat stock you should be able to get by with out a oversize tank but you will be pushing it.

your slip on should be fine. But full system would be better.

I would say (my opinion) most important stuff is shocks skids tires.

jak1389
02-19-2005, 05:49 PM
would stock rims be ok, or would they get too beat up ?

crazyatvn
02-19-2005, 06:24 PM
stock rims are nice rims. I just don't like to use them because they are very expensive to replace. my spare tires are douglas 190 rears with stock front, I bought them used and very beat up but they work good. You do not need beadlocks.

id buy an old junk bumper to race with cuz the trees dont like them bumpers to much:eek2: ya dont want to mess up that 130 dollar blingstar:)

crazyatvn
02-21-2005, 05:12 AM
My only advice is to remember it is a marathon not a sprint. Unless you can sprint for two hours. Also don't expect to much your first race. Take it easy and get experience first. and always remember to watch out for tho other guy that is a newbie and is tring his hardest and he should not be. He is the dangerous one that will help you to find you parking spot on a tree. I would rather race with the more experianced riders than the newbie's much safer.

my opinion.

I agree 100%. You don't see Blingstar bumpers on XC quads for a reason... I"ve trashed several bumpers and so far the Bull Horn Pro armor is holding up well. I even smacked a few trees already and she's not bending at all. Can't say much for the bolts I keep sheering off in the frame...:o

what type of shocks does everyone recomend?

Dave400ex
02-22-2005, 08:54 PM
Some good skidplates and tires are important. Also a good bumper. I am impressed with the PRM skids and Razr tires. Here's mine during rebuild...

jak1389
02-22-2005, 08:57 PM
nice quad!!! what shock setup would you guys recomend: works tripple rate w/ rezzie for $350, or ohlins w/o rezzie for $175? what would be best in the long run. i dont know to much about ohlins so anythng will help. thanks

I like my works shocks but I never road the olins before. Works shocks are eay to rebuild too.

Novice XC Setup...

SKids, Tires, Aftermarket shocks (whatever is in your price range), and Steering stabilizer.
That should be a great foundation to start with then add the little upgrades later.

Just my opinion,
Jeff

Also 450R pegs are a cheap and worth while upgrade, and get some kickups for them also.

can i send the pic of my 400ex to someone to post for me because its tellin me its too big and im haveing problems resizing it?

jak1389
02-23-2005, 08:25 PM
what do you guys think about works tripple rate shocks w/ remote rezzies that are in pretty good shape for $350?

Dave400ex
02-23-2005, 08:34 PM
$350 sounds like a good deal. More then likely they will need rebuilt or revalved, and if they do send them to Derisi for his setup that is suppose to do wonders for the Works shocks.

muddy400EX
02-23-2005, 08:55 PM
350 for works trpl w/rezzies sounds like a great deal to me but they prolly need rebuilt or sumthing like sumone else said

crazyatvn
02-23-2005, 08:59 PM
How old are the shocks? Are they for a 400ex? Are they valved for the right weight and riding? If you want email me the pic (dans_atv@yahoo.com) I will resize and send back to you. Or you can use photobucket.com it is easy to store pictures for posting. They automatically resize opon uploading pictures.

jak1389
02-23-2005, 09:05 PM
the shocks seem pretty new. they are set up for a 180 lb. rider and im 150. so with all my gear and stuff it'll only be off 20 lbs. that isnt a deal deal right?

crazyatvn
02-23-2005, 09:18 PM
add mud you are close enough, to me anyway's.

If they are too stiff then you can move the preload clip up a notch or two to get you working good.

They will still be 100 times better than stock.

would steel braided brake lines be a good idea?

honda_runner
02-24-2005, 08:52 AM
jak1389 would steel braided brake lines be a good idea?

Yea it would because, the stock rubber lines expand over a long use or on a hot day, therefore they lose pressure to the hydralic piston, and steel ones don't expand.
