what do you guys think about buying octane booster. some guy that was riding a 400ex the other day had some in his tank. i thought he was running like 101-103 octane. but he said it was only 93 with octane booster. do you guys do this too.

I ran octane booster in my 400EX when it was stock. All it did was drain my wallet and foul the plug. (turns it red) When I rebuilt the motor not long ago, the exhaust valves had a red tint to them also. (i only used the stuff a few times)

Here is my 2cts.---> From my personally experience, if you NEED more octane, go with a race gas. The race gas is a pure mixture and you know exactly what octane your putting into your tank. I dont like mixing stuff...its too unreliable.

Those octane boosters are meant to be poured into full sized vehicle tank, and not a small quad engine's tank. A full bottle poured in would be way too much. :(

OK GUYS HEAR IS THE SCOOP ON OCTANE BOOSTERS!

A STOCK 400EX OR EVEN A SLIGHTLY MODDED ONE WITHOUT HIGH COMPRESSION DONT NEED HIGH OCTANE AND IT EWONT DO ANYTHING BUT DRAIN YOUR WALLET. THEY ARE UNSAFE TO USE WITH MODDED ONES AND STOCK ONES CAUSE YOU CAN OUT TO MUCH IN! ALSO A STOCK 400EX IS TUNED TO RUN ON LIKE 89 I THINK AND ADDED OCTANE WILL NOT HELP ONE SMIGGET!

IF YOU WANT TO RUN HIGH OCTANE (DONT KNOW WHY IT WONT HELP AT ALL) RUN RACE GAS ALSO IF YOU HAVE A LOCAL AIR PORT GO AND BUY AV GAS THIS IS THE LEAST YOU SHOULD DO (REAL RACE FUEL IS BETTER AND SAFER) BUT THEY SELL MIXED 103LL FUEL.

LATER GUYS

MY ADVISE IS IF YOU DONT HAVE HIOGH COMPRESION DONT USE HIGH OCTANE.

HIGH OCTANE IS USED WITH HIGH COMPRESION CAUSE IT WILL RUN COOLER. A STOCK ENGINE DOESNT NEED RACE FUEL!

the 400ex is rated to use 92 according to the owners manual. I'm not for this stuff or anything, but if you only had 87 octane fuel to put in your 400ex, and put in 1/4 of a bottle, that would be o.k right? I think it made mine start easier. it fired up quicker. I had old (a few months old) gas I used in mine and put a little booster in it. But I think you guys are right about it being a waste of money.

A buddy of mine always runs 87 in his Warrior. when he got his port and polish job a month back, the guy whom did the port and polish, yelled at him. The 87 octane left the carbon deposits on real thick. His combustion chamber side of the head couldnt be completely cleaned.
