Me personally, I wouldn't take either of them, I'd rather have a truck. But everyone has their own opinion. That's what makes the world go 'round. If I had to choose I would go with the Subaru.

Anybody that knows anything about cars would know that the Subaru is the way to go and that Mitsubishi quality is down the drain, they do all this advertising about how great their warranty is, yet try getting them to actually honor it. I wouldnt touch a Mitsubishi right now, I don't expect them to be around much longer, having lots of financial difficulties and they just keep digging theirselves deeper.

Definitly nothing wrong with the Eclipses and they do make quality cars What they lack in is customers service.

You can definitly tell this is not a car website. They both are very similar but I've personally been to a Evo/STi drag race session and the Evo won almost every race and they murder the STi in the turns. Not to mention over in Europe they sell a version that is faster than a Lambo Muricilargo( bad spelling) for 1/4 the price of the lambo.

Subaru Impreza WRX STi for SURE! I like the looks a lil better, with the same driver in each car (test driver) the wrx is .02 of a second slower from 0-60 but 0-60 in 4.92 seconds aint bad ;)

drools i want a subbie so bad :( RALLY!

i have gotten to play around with a new evo, and they are a ton of fun (and im an old school v8 rwd kinda guy).

However, given equal prices, i would have to pick the sti caus its got a bigger motor, and i am pretty sure runs lower boost (more room to bump up the boost) + a 6 speed. compared to the smaller evo motor, higher boost (i think), 5 speed.

by what i know on paper, sti seems better. but paper numbers aren't always best...

Dale512

The STI is definately faster in the 1/4 than the EVO, the EVO handles ever so slightly better...it will not slaughter the STI in turns as you say. Personally I think the STI looks better and is better quality. (Tranny being the exception, very weak.)

PS. Most of don't live in Europe.

all you guys that are sayin **** about the EVO have obviously never driven one...lol.. it's funny cuz you all read the mag articles, but havn't had any real life expierience with them, and thats what matters. my buddy has an EVO and i drive it all the time, and by the way, i have never lost to an Sti in a drag race.... the EVO is an amazing car, and handling is awesome in this car...

and to whoever was talkin about boost, yes the Sti does run lower boost, but it also has .5L more in motor size, so therefore less boost is fine.. and the EVO does come in a 6-speed version, called the MR... ( nice car by the way, was with my buddy when we test drove one)... idk, EVO all the way for me... just more practical, i mean the Sti doesn't even come with a radio or AC standard.. but every one has a right to there own opinion

No ****, thats why its called "ATVRiders.com" ? .. But anyhow, the Evo does not murder the STI in anyway, ive got buddies with both cars, they are very simular. I just like the STI style better because the EVO is so small.

P.S. the reason the Europe version EVO is faster than a lambo is becuase its obviously not stock at all. They come pre-modded from factory, and they do a good job on it aswell. Just about everything is upgraded to the highest standards.

Evo Basic warranty 5 yrs/60,000 miles, STI -3 yrs/36,000 miles
Powertrain warranty EVO 10 yrs/100,000 miles, STI- 5 yrs/60,000 miles
Roadside assist period EVO 3 yrs/36,000 miles, STI- 3 yrs/36,000 miles

You can say the same thing with Subaru, on the STI forums there complaining just as much as the EVO drivers. I own a 2003 White evo, i have a k&n intake, ecu reflash, greddy type s bov, boost controller held at 20 psi to redline, and hks carbon-TI catback exhaust and ive never had a problem with any warranty work or service. I guess it all depends which dealer you bring it to but i talked to a guy who has a 04 STI and he said that the STI's were having a lot of warranty issues too, with modding, illegal racing etc....a guy that i talk to on the evolution.m forums is trying to sue mitsubishi cuz he claims that they voided his warranty before they even looked at the car because he raced his evo at great lakes dragstrip. I guess someone who works for a local mitsubishi dealership took down his plate number, and 3 months later the driver came in with a shot tranny and mitsubishi refused to look at it because of the racing claim against him. But when ur dealing with 300 horsepower rally cars with all wheel drive and wings that come 10 inchs off the car what do u expect, they'll look for anyway to stiff u with a 3,000$ tranny bill

anyone who says the Sti knows nothing about rally cars .. I know it may be personal opinion .. but the Evo is just as quick and handles 100 times better .. might be why it was sport compact magazines car of the year?
It seems every shootout I read in the mags between the 2 the Evo is head and shoulders above the Sti every time.
Oh yeah .. and I work at a subaru Dealership.

sorry but i didn't specify that the 03-04 models didn't come with ac or a radio standard but now they offer these standard but the msrp is a couple grand more.... and the boost is lower due to the fact that they don't need to put as much boost into the car with the bigger motor, and plus that intercooler on the Sti is a bit smaller than the EVO and can't hold as much boost...

Supraman. Its a Blue 04. I have so much money into it that I've lost count. I'm currently running high 9 seconds in the quarter mile on Street tires.

I must say as much as I like the EVO, nearly everybody I know around me that has one has had atleast one major mechanical malfunction, but that could be the way they drive and take care of their cars. Most of the "car guys" around here are complete morons and don't even deserve to own a Cavalier.

One thing I can definately say is that aftermarket parts are far cheaper for the EVO than the STI, but theres so many more EVOs out on the road than STIs.

Supraman, thanks for the compliments. I'll try to get some pictures of the engine bay for you, since other than that it looks bone stock from the outside.

I hope to be hitting up some of the bigger races with it this year.

I also have a Dodge SRT4 project. I havent had a chance to get it to the track in its current state, the same state its been in since the end of summer, did get to dyno it though. Pulled 448HP and 431ft/lb Torque on Pump Gas. It's been a busy last few months, but I should have an abundance of free time coming up to play with the cars.

both cars are awesome. In NH it's all STi's, there's hardly as many Evos. I've never driven either, but I'd been in the STi and ridden in it. In my eyes, your spending 30 grand on an engine. It feels and sounds like a tin can on wheels.

If you want something in that price range, find a 98-2001 B5 Audi A4 quattro, put a K04 upgrade on it and for about 10grand less then getting one of those two cars, you will have a crazy fast car.

Just my .02, but then again I'm a german car freak :eek2:

xsr_racing28c
02-20-2005, 07:25 AM
the neons can be somewhat quick from a rolling start, but at the track, the motor overpowers the front wheels and the car gets loose to easy... i know of a guy by me that has an Srt-4 with a stage 2 turbo kit, full turbo back exhaust and some other work done to the car( ecu etc..) and he still runs low 14's and maybe might have broken in to the high high 13's ... but without sometype of drag radial or suspension work, its hard to get a front wheel drive car to stay glued to the road... in my mind it kinda worthless to have one but thats just my opinion..

Hey Dale, whats up with the STi that runs 9's?? are we gonna get to see some pics and mods or what?? i don't think many on here believe you, so it would be to your advantage to prove them wrong if you can... Its just very hard to believe that you can get an STi to run 9's on street tires, seeing that i can spin the tires in first, second and third, on an EVO... and theres no room for slippage in a 9 second run.. and with pump gas, that means your running a lower compression, in turn, your not gonna be able to hold high boost, and or high hp.. so just list some stuff done to it and get up some pics...

i think the cobalt ss looks like a pretty cool car. i heard its supposed to be alot better than the old cavaliers which it replaced, but i don't know how well its going to compete with the srt-4. if dodge would ditch the neon and redesign the car i would consider one.

Yeah I hear ya.

I don't know how the power situation on the SS will be, you don't see many supercharged 4 bangers for a reason. The super charger robs more power to make power then the 4's can deal with (usually). It'll be interesting to see how it is

I've always been a hardcore Subaru fan, only Japanese car I'd ever buy.

We have a few Subaru GL Hatchback's from the 80's, two of them have 4WD and they are a BLAST to race in the woods. I swear I can go faster in my woods in my '87 Subaru 1.8L then my 400ex or Banshee...I love that thing to death:D .
