What quad is it going in? Do you want synthetic, semi, or non?

I use 10w 40 with my 400 ex and a quart and a half of it.

it depends on the temperature outside, and how much your willing to pay for oil.

Now I run Petroleum (non sythentic) oil in my 400ex because I really dont notice much of a difference between the full synthetic and the semi synthetic and the non synthetic, so I just go for the cheapest. Now since its freezing out I would run 10-40. Now when it starts getting reasonably warm out, 50 degrees or higher faranheit, you should be running 20-50. As for what kind of oil, I would go with whatever your local dealer has. Preferrably though PJ-1 or Klotz, PJ-1 is a little cheaper than Klotz but Klotz works a bit better. Right now I am running PJ-1 oil because my dealer doesnt carry very much Klotz. I have been running PJ-1 oil for the past 2 years almost and it has worked great so I may not switch over. When it comes down to it either company is really good. When you are changing the oil just drain everything out of the engine, then if you have an oil tank outside the engine (like you dont pour oil straight into the engine but into a seperate tank thats connected by hoses to the engine) drain the oil tank too. Then just fill the oil tank up and let it idle for 5 minutes without revving it or anything, then check the oil then just add it till its on the full mark on the dipstick. Just make sure you change the oil filter every month and the oil every month if you ride alot, if you dont ride a whole lot then just change the oil and oil filter every other month. I suggest using K&N oil filters, they are awesome, been running them since I found out they made oil filters 2 years ago.

hope I helped

i use 2 quarts

i dont see how that could hurt anything since they make over sized tanks
