What is the proper tension on a 400ex timing chain? When I was setting my valves due to a ticking noise I noticed that I could very easily move my timing chain on the sprocket. I losened the tensioner fairly easily and it sprang back into place but not with a lot of force. Should I be able to move the chain that much?

I would replace the tensioner, they arent that expensive, if that doesnt solve it your chain may be stretched to far.

I had my fair share of 300ex timing chain issues. They have the same setup as the 400's. On the 300's i worked on most of them were the chain being streched. I would replace it they dont run much and it wouldnt hurt to buy a new tensioner.

Thanks alot. I think that I will replace the chain. It is a 1999 so I believe that it is probably stretched. If it is still loose I will then replace the tensioner.
