View Full Version : how to remove a head on a 400ex???

i took out all the small bolts on the top of the head and there is only 1 larger bolt in the top middle of the head and it dont seem to wanna turn, im not sure if there is somthin else that i gotta do to get it off? plz help

You should have to remove 12 small bolts and 1 large bolt. That large bolt will unscrew just keep working at it. When thats done the head cover should come off. Good Luck...

Get a bigger ratchet wrench or a breaker bar. ;)
the head cover will come off, then to remove the head, you need to remove the carb, exhuast, cam, secure the timing chain, then remove the 4 acorn nuts AND WASHERS (take note of the thickness of the washers) and then the head is free, minus the gasket holding it on

the washers are differant thicknesses? WHY?
i have absolutly no idea, but just keep an eye on where they come out of..
