Rebuilding Elkas

How much would it cost to send in my front elka shocks to get rebuilt for a different rider weight?

If would be interested in knowing also. Just bought a bike from a rider who was about 60 pds. lighter than my fat a*s. I need to get the rear redone. Any recommendations who to use for this would helpful or do you need to send them back to ELKA???

There are a few good places to send them. Jeff@thequadshop works a lot with Elka, C&D, and Elka themselves. I believe if you want a rebuild its fairly cheap. However if you are revalving for a different weight I think its about $70+ per shock. Also if the weight is way off you might have to change springs too, which run $30+ a piece.

If the rider weight is a BIG difference than yes the valving will need to be changed. Most for the time you can get a away with a simple bottom spring change. My rear was set up for a 175# pound rider but I am 200 with gear. It came with a 1 1/4 swingarm spring and I put that on. Works GREAT! The terrain is what the valving is more for. As long as the terrain/style of riding is the same, a bottom spring may just do the trick.

I also have a question about revalving - The front shocks I just bought are set up for a 180-200 class B mx rider and the rear is set up for 190 mx (this is what I was told from the seperate sellers) - I weight 175 in boxers - should I revalve all three for 300+ dollars or just ride them the way they are?

if you want more preformance also, you can send them to derisi racing, he uses different valving specs than elka. its supposed to be a huge difference. think you can get out for about 400 all 3 shocks. he's on this site and has a website, but i'm not sure what it is.

i always add 10 lbs. for gear, if you wiegh 175 in boxers then it sounds like the weight is pretty close, i wouldnt sweat it

LuckyCharms I agree with bradley. When they say they are valved for 185 thats not an exact wieght that could be 165-185 or 185-200 so you have leadway. I would ride them and if they feel good go with it. ride it until they need rebuilt and maybe get different springs or valving then.

One of my friends rode one those shocks and he loved them, he is 165 with no gear. The black plastic collars on the socks can also be flipped over to make the shocks softer, right now they are all setup to make the shocks as stiff as possible.

Ride them, adjust the compression to dial them in, and ride on them some more to see how they handle before sending them in.
