my 300 smokes just a little when i start it up in the cold but it stops like 3 seconds later and it never did this until i changed the oil in it a few weeks ago i put Rotella t in it. i read somewhere that if your choke dosent work right then it mite do this a little but i wasent sure. thank you very much for any advice on this problem.

What color smoke? Blue, Black, Grey... My friend owns a 300EX and it does this just a little too. It should be fine. BUT, when I put oil in my 400EX I try and keep away from the car oil. I put the Honda 4 Stroke oil in it and it runs good.

You will be fine, I would say your valve seals are starting to wear a little allowing a little oil through. Many, many 4 strokes smoke when you first start them or when you get on the throtle.

You should be totally fine as your engine is emitting heat and getting used to it's cold surrounding. It doesn't sound like oil is burning off quickly (This would emit a bluish color smoke). So you should be all set. Start your bike and let it warm up for about 5 - 6 minutes before riding. It'll save you trouble rather then just getting on and going which is hard on the motor..

Good luck and you should be ready to ride!!!

my 300 does the same thing at startup. but i know its oil because it smells and is blueish. just make sure to check your oil before every ride.
