I'm in the middle of my rebuild, I'm doing 10.8-1 416 with a stage 2 hotcam. I've got the head off, and I'm now trying to get the cylinder off. Do you need to beat on it with a mallet or what? Any suggestions???

Thanks.

You might have to tap it with a rubber mallot to get it off of the base gasket. I dont think it will need to be beat, I have never had one stuck on too bad.

when i took mine apart the first time, it was on there really good. i had to hit it really hard with a mallot. it finally came loose though.

Haha, yeah what everyone else said. The first time I did it, I started tapping gently with a rubber mallet on the cooling fins. It wouldn't budge and I was like WTF?? So eventually I ended up beating on it as hard as i could and it started to let loose. Those stock base gaskets are really on there. :eek2:

I just got mine off for the first time last night. I layed the motor on the right side to get good access to the fins on the front left corner, then whacked the fins from the bottom with a rubber mallet. As someone else said, the stock gasket is on there good, as you'll find out when cleaning the surfaces. I've had good luck with Gumout for softening the material.
