Todd Knippenberg almost didn't make it to the opening round of the GNCC event after he lost control of his Truck & Trailer while driving through the snow in West Virginia mountains.

His trailer was demolished in the accident and his truck was damaged to the point that he wouldn't be able to make the trip, so he called fellow pro rider, Andy Lagzdins, to ask for help.

Andy Lagzdins rerouted his trip to Texas, so he could pick up Todd Knippenberg and bring him to Texas.

#11 Michael Houston also joined the Four Stroke Tech team for 2005, which now has three top 11 riders and 45 feet of Pro Pit space:eek:

Janseen is providing the Swingarms and A-arms for the team, and the Honda swingarms come with Yamaha mounting tabs which took Houston by surprise, so he called Badger to produce a last minute skid plate for the opening round, but the ground clearance of the plate may produce a problem for the rocky track.

Admin
02-11-2005, 10:12 PM
Badger produced an awesome looking stainless steal skid for Houston, but being it was last minute, the plate was designed to hang down too far below the rotor and sprocket.

I am sure the issue will be corrected by Florida, but hopefully it doesn't cause any problems for Houston this weekend.

#16 Santo Derisi is looking to get back on the Podium again this year after making the switch to the Honda. He saw what Chris Borich did once he made the switch, so he is looking for some similiar results.

If anyone is looking for a Big Gun Exhaust system at the track, Santo Derisi will be the man to talk because of his new position with the company.

The Track for Saturday's event was very similar to last years except it was run backwards with several more technical hill climbs and fresh cut tight sections to keep it interesting.

The biggest addition to the course was the rocks and there were plenty more to negotiate than last year with the Afternoon class having to climb a rocky hill that the spectators to watch without walking far from the Pro Pits.

Admin
02-14-2005, 06:34 AM
There were also plenty of high speed sections mixed in throughout the course.

With temps in the Mid 50's and the rain heading in from the west the skies were overcast for the start of the Afternoon Race.

The five time champion,Bill Ballance lined up on his Factory Yamaha YFZ. With the support of Yamaha, Bill Ballance will be able to focus on ATV racing more now than ever before, so the competition better come to the track prepared for some high speed racing action.

Notice how plain Ballance's YFZ is this season. Yamaha has limited the number of sponsors that Bill is allowed to display on his YFZ.

#5 Chad Duvall wouldn't be racing the Opening round due to being diagnosed CML (Chronic myeloid leukemia) which is a type of cancer of the blood and the bone marrow. It is caused by abnormal white bloods cells developing that the body keeps producing in large numbers, which causes the white blood cell count to rise dramatically.

Chad’s white blood cell count rose to 128 thousand and it should have been around 4 to 11 thousand, but with the treatment of Gleevec, Chad’s blood cell has returned back to normal, but he won’t be able to race at this time, but it wasn't enough to stop him from making the trip to show his support for his fellow riders.

Chad is a fighter and if we all keep him in our thoughts and prayers, I am sure he will pull through this and will be back to racing in no time.

#6 Bryan Cook returns for the 2005 on his Four Stroke Tech YFZ, and is looking for a repeat Overall win this season without any controversy surrounding it.

The Four Stroke Tech team has been expanded for 2005 to include three Pro Riders including #6 Bryan Cook, #7 Chris Jenks, and #11 Michael Houston, so Four Stroke Tech will have 45' of space on Pro Row for the 2005 season and will have a huge easy up to fill the spot by Florida.

By the beginning of the 2nd lap, Bill Ballance had develop a five second lead over William Yokley.

In this photo, you can see one of the reasons why Bill Ballance is so fast. Notice how he avoids the rocks by riding through the less rocky leaves, but stays within the limits of the course. Smart line decisions like this one saves him valuable seconds throughout the race over his competitors.

#6 Bryan Cook was off too a good start in 6th place as he started his climb up the rocky hill, but he made the critical mistake of picking a bad line which left him stuck on a rock.

I jumped onto the track and help him get off the rock, and he made another attempt at climbing over the rocks in front of him with no success, so I pulled him helped once again with no success, so he decided to turn his YFZ around and try a totally different line, which costed him valuable time.

While, Bryan Cook was stuck on the rocks, #14 Andy Lagzdins was able to come through and make the easy pass and move up to 6th place on his 450R.

By the end of the 2nd lap, Bill Ballance remained in the lead, and Chris Borich moved up to 2nd Place after William Yokley let him by when he came charging up behind him. Borich pulled to within six seconds of Ballance by the beginning of lap three, and William Yokley dropped back ten seconds behind Borich after slicing a huge hole in his rear tire that also punctured several tireballs which left his rear tire partially flat.

Admin
02-14-2005, 01:14 PM
With William Yokley losing time due to a partially flat rear tire, #7 Chris Jenks began to close the 45 second gap that seperated him from William at the beginning of lap three.

Borich continued to lead Ballance through the pits on the 4th lap with William Yokley continuing to drop back behind the leaders.

He could have pitted for a tire change, but the tire change could have costed him as much time as he would lose riding on a partially flat tire, and he wasn't willing to make take the gamble.

"We passed each other about a half a dozen times through the race back and forth and I saw a spot or two that I thought would work on the last lap, but on the last lap one of the place had a couple of spectators, so I couldn’t pass and just about made the one spot stick at the end of the race, but it did happen. Jathan Seale was the Ironman last year racing for points in both the GNCC & GNC TT Series. Jathan ended up finishing season in 4th in the Pro Am class and won two races along the way. Also, he finished 5th in the Pro TT class in the GNC.

Unfortunately, over the winter, he was playing one of those dangerous contact sports, Basketball, and tore his ACL, which required surgery and will sideline him for almost the entire season :(.

Jathan still made the drive from Arkansaw to show his support to good friend Jeremy Rice and many other friends in the GNCC Series.

Get well soon!!!
