What is the best plug and plug gap to run with the mods I have in my signature? I have been running NGK BR8ES @ .029. I was told my ESR to squeeze the gap down to "18". Is that to tight, and exactly how do you interpret 18 so I can adjust my plug to that? Is 18 the same as .018, which is a little tighter than .020?

Also is it better to run a B8ES?

Why do you need to adjust the gap? Are you having firing problems?

I would adjust the gap only if you have firing problems. ESR meant .018". If you are breaking up at high RPM, close the gap. You may want to try .025" to start. .028-.031" is stock, so I'd probably close it just a tad, but that's your call. My new ESR 310 runs like a dream with a BR9ES gapped at .018", exactly as ESR recommended.

Now that you mention it, on the pavement doing test runs at high rpms the engine breaks up a bit. But the main reason is because on cold start when the bike has been sitting for a while, the motor floods really bad to the point where when it starts, fuel runs out of the pipe joint (where the pipe comes aparts), and is real boggy until it idles for a minute. This kind of happened out of no where. No changes to the bike or the weather have occured, and it runs and starts the same once its warm. ESR reccommended .018 for the gap, but I did not specify to him that my compression is near stock.

When i got my 330 kit with a stroker crank it would cut out at 3/4 throttle and start missing. I called ESR and they said to run a BR9ES and knock the gap doen to .018. They said my motor was blowing the spark out. Runs like an ape now.
