We had some issues with my 440 kit(12:1 piston) and we are going to start from scratch ans put on a Duncan440 kit(12:1 piston) tomorrow .. Im STOKED to see how well it does. Anyone else here have one and whats your thoughts on it?
Im going to have to eventually (before MX starts ) upgrade the rockers( my builder doesnt like them on the 426 so we kept it stock) I hear that this has pros and cons to it, but there kit reccomends them as a mandatory item to put on. Also Ill need a 8 plate clutch I guess:confused: Im not sure on how imparative the clutch is ,Ive still got a few things to learn about that ...

I would however like to hear how you all liked this kit. I have my head ported already and have also added a 450R carb. Does anyone know what HP approx. it will be ?? I als orun a Yoshi Exhaust... :)

I had their national kit and have upgraded since then. I just got my Power Cylinder 4000 in the 440 version (Loren Duncan told me that kit is a better idea than their 450 and 465 due to reliabity, price, and perfomance isn't much worse than the 450 or 465), which is a fully aftermarket cylinder made by Duncan. I'm putting it on tomorrow I'll let you know how it does. The national kit is very nice and strong if you use all of the compnents they recomenned. If you don't it won't perform to its potential. but this one makes the other one look like a joke hopefully it performs as good as it looks.

So why is it that you need a dif. clutch anyhow??? Does this change anything on the stiffness fo the clutching also?? I hope not :( Im still learning all this stuff so sorry if I sound a little ignorant... :o

Upgrade the clutch for sure.

It came from the factory intended for a stock motor. Your motor is far from stock and it makes a VERY big difference. It's a MUST upgrade for you I think Tina. Chit can the stock basket too before it explodes with the 8 plate kit.

yeah, it reccomends the 8 plate . Im clueless on this chit ... :( Its all about money ( I dont have!:o :p )
I think its gonna set me back about 500.00 bones for rockers and clutch basket... Sheesh, this ended up being a d@mn expensive motorwhen it all done!!! :eek2:

You should be able to find a Hinson basket for around $200 and the 8 plate kit is about $150, but it's money well spent.

I just changed the clutch on my strong running Trinity 440EX (built in 99) for the first time in 12/04. I just put a generic clutch ($30) back in the machine and it is running great. The clutch basket looked good when I had it opened up, minor grooving---nothing major. Just my .02's.

I've dealt with Duncan before and all i can say is do exactly what they say and you'll be extremely happy. They really know how to setup a quad specific to your type of racing. If you have any questions their tech support is great. They have helped me out a lot.

well. so far so good !!! Thanks for posting the pics Fastbikes!!

So now as far as the clutch goes, will going to an aftermarket have any effect on how stiff the clutch will be?? I cant afford to go with anything stiff due to bad Tendonitis. :( My stock is pretty good but could be a little better

Bad news on the new clutch then Tina. It will probably be 30% harder to pull. The stiffer springs make a difference for sure. MIght want to look into a Magura clutch or one of the Moose inline pull reducers..

I may chance my stock one for now then cause stiffer I cant use NO way...No how.... My hands tire enough with the stock one .... :(

C&D Racing has the Hinson basket for $190
Sparksracing.com has the 8 plate clutch for $139

I didn't notice the extra pull between a stock and aftermarket clutch. May be just me. IDK. I would get the clutch components listed above and a new clutch cable. I think you'll be fine. JMO.;)

Let us know how this kit works vs. a regular 440. I'm also looking into this kit, but would like some feedback before dropping a G !! Thanks

will do. ;)
over the next few weeks Ill have a better chance to give a an overall opinion, but I had a 426 before so my comparison would be judged on that .Since right now all Im doing is ST racing. but I can DEF. feel a difference on the power and it pulls much better on the corners compared to what I had before!

I have a full Hinson clutch a new cable and a works connection lever. And compared to a some stock 400's I ride once in a while mine feels a lot easier and them.

I have a moose inline easy pull and it makes a difference, ive ran them adjustable levers before, (msr raptor i think) and its about the same feel as them. I think they run 40 bucks for the moose one.
