400ex axle replacement problem

Just replaced my axle bearings and refitted the axle but the sprocket carrier is not fully home. I thought when i tightened the axle nut it would pull it in but it is still about 4mm out. I them tried using a hammer and a block of wood on the axle but this didn't help.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

The hammer and block of wood worked for me with some real heavy blows with the hammer. It was an aftermarket axle and carrier though.
