Chain Maintenance?

Howdy,
I just took my 300ex into the shop to get some axle carrier bearings put in it. And the guy says my chain is dried out. The o-rings are still good. And I just oiled it about 2 weeks ago. So what I am wondering is how often I should lube my chain. Just to let you know I have the stuff that is "o-ring safe" and comes in a bottle (like to spray it on like paint) Should I get the rub on kind?

Everytime before you ride, and everytime after you wash it is when you should oil it. Basically, always keep it greased.

i do it when EvilJester400EX says and also when we stop for a break to cool off or get a drink ill even lube it then.
