Could I use a xr400r cam in my 400 with all the ex stock parts?

i put in a 440 kit and used a xr400 cam. its just like a stage 1 hotcam.

It costs so much though the hotcam is only like $150. But is it just as reliable though.

The hotcam is like $100 on ebay, and your best bet for the XR cam is ebay also or maybe a junkyard or something. It will be just as realiable cause thats what they use in the dirtbike and I haven't heard of any problems with those.

if you want to upgrade your cam go with a new hot cam theres no point in paying close to the amount of a new hot cam when your getting a used XR cam that isn't as "hot" as the hot cam. i checked into all the cams when i had my top end redone. the machanics told me it would be cheaper to get the hot cam and i would see better performance gains. also you may have heard the hot cams have problems, the problems have been fixed and they are good cheap cams

the xr cam isnt' expensive:

14000-KCY-670 CAMSHAFT ASSY. $135.47

this is the part number for the xr cam and this is from service honda. the HRC cam is the more expensive one, but more aggressive too.

I got my XR400 cam off of Ebay for $19.95 a few weeks ago.
