Hey guys, ok this gets me.... My two choices when it came to shocks were ELKA and PEP. I looked at their performance and everything and I knew the PEP's would be better than i asekd Elka how long it would take.... 2 weeks...wow ill get the elkas!!!
it has been 5 weeks and they still reply they will be here at the end of the week... sorta makes me mad that they loor you into buying there product with that and then they dont honor it... if they would just say hey a few more weeks then ok... no every week tell me it will be in by friday... this sucks.. Anyone else have this problem????
Thanks for listening hahha

Who did you order them from? Monday, i called ELKA (main office) and the sales guy told me i was looking at at least a month wait if i ordered strait from them ($525) Then, i got ahold of Jeff at the Quadshop. Before shiping, they were 450 (with exrider disc.). He also said he will TRY to get them to me before my race on the 19th (of this month). See, Marty (at the quadshop) actually builds the shocks there. They have all the individual parts and put them together for you right there.

Now, shocks are a custom order part, and race season is really starting to pick up. More racing = more demand for parts. I will be a little disapointed if i don't get my shocks by the 19th, but thats my fault for waiting till last minute.

Just useless info.....

Sometimes having the right friends will get you some really nice goodies, but nothings free. Beggar's can't be chooser's....catch my drift. Funny how sometime it seems that TIME costs more than MONEY........

I ordered mine from the Quadshop early last week. Jeff said they had the parts to build them, and that I should see them this week. Talked to him yesterday, now he says that Elka is backed up. I didnt ask him why he said he had the parts and that he could build them for me, I didnt want to piss him off. Anyways, he couldnt give me an ETA at all.

The Shock world sucks!!!

Jeff pretty much told me the same thing. They try to keep all the parts to build your shocks. if they run out of a particular part, they have to turn to Elka...who IS currently behind schedule.

Sorry, wasnt puttin down Quadshop, although they seem moody, probably from all the angry customers. Theyre still OK by me.

I’ve talked to the quad shop and elka. Quad shop ordered a but load of stuff from elka but some how it got delayed probably because of there rising popularity in the atv market there just in a growth period right now it will pass and there great service will return. There still faster then most out there right now, im sure every shock brand is backed up since we are coming into the summer months for most of the country and its race time.

Yah, it's all in the timing of order. I speak with Martin and Mark all the time at Elka. I ordered my rear in March, and didn't get it for 6 weeks, although they quoted me three. Here's why
1) Elka is becoming a more popular shock(especially since Dirtwheels review in Feb. Issue), and it's not just us on Exriders who are ordering, there are hundreds of new orders, and everyone wants their shock in time for this years race seacon.
2) Before that, with what they considered normal business, it really only did take them about two weeks to deliver. Heck, back in January, I ordered my fronts, they built them, shipped them, and I got them at my door in 7 days.
3) During March and April, they moved from a smaller shop into a larger one. That created some CNC machine downtime, as well as personell downtime. (hence the backup of my shock too)
4)Business is business, and when you have unexpected demand, you may not have the manpower to fullfill all the orders, and Elka has plans to expand and hire more poeple.

I know we all wish we could get what we order immediately, and Elka is trying, and they are now realizing the actual delivery dates and are adjusting thier time quotes to match. It's their largest inrush of orders to date, and they are learning to deal with it. They are getting back on track!

What kind of riding do you do? How much $$ do you have? What are you future plans (racing?)?

Elka is trying very hard to become the top shop manufacture on the planet, and they are well on their way to becoming just that. Unforunatly at the moment demand is greater than supply. Elka is expanding as we speak to meet those demands. Just try and be patient as you can with Elka or the dealers you order from. They are a great product.
Sorry if we sound "moody" on the phone, we don't mean to be but Marty and I are working night jobs for now untill The Quad Shop can pay us! Lack of sleep sometimes make you moody!:( Don't worry, you wont piss off!

I ordered my Elkas(set of 3) about 2 months ago straight from ELKA in Canada. I spoke with Martin and Marc few times and they were VERY nice to talk to. I was quoted a price better than the 2 other places I called and I would get them in 3 weeks.
After answering a bunh of questions about riding style, weight, tire size, width... I was all set!

My shocks came in 3 weeks as promised and they looked pretty good. After riding a few times I called Elka because I had too much body roll in the front end. They told me to try a few adjustments and I did. It got better but still not acceptable so I asked them if I could purchase different springs and crossover rings. Thy said sure, we'll just send them to you(as in free!).

Within that week I got a recall letter in the mail for my rear shock. I sent the shock out that day(so I would get it in time for Red Bud). I alled Elka the other day and they said they are working on the shock now and it WOULD be back in time for my race, AND they were throwing in some new shock covers.

All I can say is This company ROCKS! I have never dealt with anyone so friendly and willing to help. I'm sure the number of orders Elka has received in the past couple of months is very large, so be paitent, it will be worth it.

Is your bottom spacer upside-down?

"any more pics?"

I do have more pictures, just see my site below.

"Is your bottom spacer upside-down?"

This is the way Elka sent them to me. I have played with the crossover rings since that picture was taken and it has helped a little.

I ordered my Elka's about 1 week ago and I was told that they would be here in 3 weeks, also my rear shcok rebuild kit would be in in about 1 week. Hopefully they will be on time becuase I need them by the 18th. I ordered them from C&D Racing, what a great place to work with!!

don't know that it matters, but i talked to c&d racing (JhallettEX - you're right - great guy to work with), and he said elka has opened up a new manufacturing facility to help meet demand. they build the shocks to order and plan on having no more than a three week wait.

TRX250R87, he's right that bottom spacer is upside down. That can make it body roll in the turns.

TRX250R87
05-03-2002, 09:55 AM
I did switch them around(after the pic was taken) and it seemed to help. I asked Elka for some stiffer springs and 35lb crossover rings to play with.
The front still isn't how I want it though. First I thought it was just the Caster adjustment on my LSR A-arms but I adjusted them correctly and the front still sucks!

Am i blind? What spacer are you guys talking about.

cdalejef
05-03-2002, 10:57 AM
The second spacer down from the top, its gray!

Texan32
05-03-2002, 11:04 AM
It seems pretty trivial. how could that little spacer cause body roll? I'm not doubting anyone, i just don't understand.

Or is it like we say in the electronice world...FM...(F@#king Magic):D

TRX250R87
05-03-2002, 11:14 AM
By using different crossover rings or flipping them(they are offest more on one side than the other) you change how the shock works. If the ring is large, the spring will only travel so far, hit that ring, then compress the next spring. If small rings are used, the springs compress more before transfering to the next spring.
Confused?

05-03-2002, 11:20 AM
Makes perfect sence. I see exactly what you are talking about. thanks for clearing it up. I just figured the springs compressed all the way till they touched and then the next set took over. I guess it'll make even more sence when i look at mine...can't wait to get them on....

Casey that 400 has changed a lot. I think if I was ever to get another Quad and it wasn`t a Honda 440EX, 450EX (CRF Motor), or 600EX or Bigger I would Buy a C-Dale.

hetrick425ex
05-10-2002, 05:46 AM
yeah jim let me ride his c'dale up at Fox last weekend, it was aright, it just felt wierd and i think it needs some more bottom end to keep up to the 400, the top end is insane, it feels alot like a 2 stroke though might be why it feels wierd... i dont know all and all its a pretty nice bike.

Foxrage

No, it's there. I saw a stock Blaze pulling the Holeshot on a handfull of built 250r's....

It idles at 2000 rpms, remember. It's just a different type of power when compared to conventional 4 stroke engines. (for lack of a better phrase) The rev limiter is 11,600 also!
