I'm wondering what carb would be good for my set-up if i can't get my hands on a 400ex carb? Port & poilsh, 4 angle valve job, .335 lift Web cam, Web hardened rockers, Kibblewhite valve springs, eathier a .040 or .080 11:1 Weisco compression piston, High-rev CDI, WB/HMF pipe combo, and a uni filter. I would love to get a FCR or a Edlebrock witch I might get for my B-Day in june. But do ya'll think a 400ex carb will hold me off for the first part of my season or should I go bigger? Thanks

400ex will work fine.....but you could get a xr50 carb and lick it a couple of times

I'm still not convinced a bigger carb is better. Mickey Dunlap used to use a stock 300 carb on his big bore 300ex's, I don't know if he still does that or not. Edelbrocks website shows a 2 hp gain with their carb but for the cost I would rather have a bore kit or stroker myself.

the 400 carb will work well, be sure to use the 350x airboot.

i have a fcr39 in my ex, but its a 380. sudco sells a 35mm fcr kit for the xr250 dirtbike that would fit and be a good size for the smaller motors

Thats a great deal, on the carb. I agree with Aceman a bigger carb doesnt mean more power. When I was putting a carb on my 250R I was dead set on a 38mm airstyrker, but I called ESR and they recommend the 36mm TMX Mikuni. I didnt want to believe what they said because I was sure the 38 would make it alot faster. However I race XC and the smaller carb was perfect. A larger carb will give you more topend, but if you race the smaller stock carb will keep your good response. I would do a search on using the 400ex carb, some people like it some dont.
