I have a 04 400ex. I am a woods rider most of the time, so i do blast through puddles and haul through mud and dust. I was wondering, would it be a good idea to remove and/ or modify my airbox lid? put in consideration all the woods i ride.... does it make a noticable improvment>? i would like to now if it would do any harm to my quad because if so i would rather have a slower quad that runs for a long time than a faster quad thats gunna die on me. thanks for the help-

If you don't really need the small performance gain then your best bet would be to stick with the stock set up. Go with a high flow air filter...

I run a k and n filter with a ouwear and i wanted to run my lid but wanted a lil more air so i bought a set of uni vents. When u clean ur air filter u clean and oil them to. http://www.unifilter.com/images/Airvents.jpg

well this is my setup. It's a stock lid that I cut up and siliconed a outerwear to it then put some sheet metal to make it hold. works great and it 100% water proof

I like this setup. I got this from someone on here but I can't remember who. I'm pretty sure GT Thunder makes something very similar. It works great for trails as long as you stay away from deep water. I know Rico uses this setup for GNCC with no problems.

It is basically a 3 or 4 inch tube that extends into the airbox and helps direct any water that does get in to go past the filter.

It works great and I highly recommend it. I've ran several other setups and none have worked as good as this one..

Yep. Mine is an aluminum version of the same thing under the screen.
