how many horses does a 440 put out with the cam, piston (high comp.), rockers, and valve springs, the basics?

done right i would say around 40-45 with carb pipe and full 440
thanks

I'd guess a little lower than that. I'd say in the 36 hp range, but I don't have dyno numbers to back that up.

ill post some dynos

"The tests performed on 04-25-02 were done using an engine built by JB racing. This used a Wiseco 440 piston , a TC cam, 41mm FCR carb, and CAM II for the fuel. Present and helping with the tests were Jody Bateman from JB Racing, Rich Hetrick from Hetrick Racing, and Lazarus Sommers. There was almost 6 hours of testing done with various combinations. "

The chart loaded that time. 39.5 hp @ 7000 RPM.

What is the factory rev limiter? 6k or 8k RPMs?

Something else that chart shows is that there's NO REASON to try to turn a 400EX at 9000 RPMs. The HP peaked at 7000. After that, you're just losing power and shortening the life expectancy of the engine.

So, someone please try to explain to me again why everyone thinks they need to do away with the rev limiters on the engines?

Since a Wiseco 440 piston was used, was the actual compression ratio checked? If so what was it? Also, what are the specs on the TC cam. Just so we know what was actually tested.. Thanks!

I dyno mine a year ago and it was putting out some where in 35 hp range. I was thinking of checking it again since I added the FCR, Powerbomb and T-4. If I had to guess I am running close to 40 hp. :D

My 400 is putting out 75 ponies!

BELIEVE IT

FTZ Welded 250R Cases put an 400 Pilot topend on it bored and stroked it and I am running an FTZ alky carb.

75 PONIES Aint nothing beating me at the dunes. A little to much power for the track.

But is sure is fun smoking people at the dunes and especially on Pavement, in a drag race.

i met at this place someone that once had a pilot top end on his 250r, he broke his ankle when it kicked back on him

My bike Dyno'd at 35 hp, 'to the ground'. That was before my FCR carb, that probably added another 3-5 hp.

Let me see if I can explain this ... and I'm not talking about mx, trails or whatever I'm just talking straight speed.

Ok so max hp gain is at 7000 rpms 39.5 hp. Lets say you shift at 7000 rpms. <shift> Now your engine is not at 7000 rpms, its at say... 5000 rpms w/ 29hp.

Now lets do the WB rev limiter. Instead of shifting at 7000 rpms w/ 39.5 hp , you now shift at 9000 rpms w/ 34 hp.<shift> And just like the other bike, lets say you drop to 7000 rpms w/ 39.5 hp. You are staying in a higher HP range. With the extra rpm it lets you keep the bike in the higher HP range. Can ya guys make sense of that?

So Scott there is your answer. Thats why ya would want an after market rev limiter. Sure there is more engine wear, but ya gotta pay to play,

...and I'm just guessing about the rpm drop when you shift gears, but I think ya get the point.

Good point. Hadn't thought of the "after the shift" RPMs, only the shift point RPMs. But then again, I don't race, so maybe that's why...

for $1225 the ct mid range kit will pump out 39 ponies compared to 27 stock. But if you put a rev cdi on it, it will put out 17 more @ 9000 rpm.
