I was right next to one in a race when I had my bike together.
the rider on the Z was about 70-80lbs lighter then I am
Had a full exhaust and he said it had a cam in it

MY uncle has a piped, and jetted z-400 I have a piped and jetted 250r. He can take me off the line but once i hit third gear it's all over for him. I have a lot faster top speed and acceleration.

This is a loaded question.

Basically, if they are both your run of the mill quads, aka the z has pipe jetted and air lid removed vs. an R with ported cylinder, pipe, air box lid removed and jetted. It's a toss up I think and comes down to who is the better drag racing rider.

Now if you took your more powered up versions of both and drag raced, the R will usually hand the Z its *** on a platter.

Stock vs. stock the Z will walk the R.

Piped and jetted Z400 against a ported 250r? If they're even close, you have a crappy port job.

If they both have minor mods, like filters and pipes, without internal engine mods like cam, big-bore, high-compression, or porting, then the two will be pretty similar. But if the 250r is ported well, it will run circles around a Z400 with no engine mods. Especially if it's a drag race, and the 250r is ported and piped specifically for drag racing, then it just becomes a joke, the Z will just look silly.

I am with you on this one. My R make swuick work of just about everything out there! I got a friend that has a trx450r that Laz at GT Thunder got a hold of. God only know what laz did to it but it runs strong!!! I can eat it up and spit it out!!! DRAG, MX, TT, There is just NO challenge. Also this is not on my 310 P.V. motor. This quads motor has some work to it but nothing outragous! Good port and polish, Boysen reeds, No airbox, I think it has a 265 kit and that is it!

I keep reading this!!!

Do you mean a 250R or do you mean a 450R?

Everybody jumped off on the 250R thing. I personally do not see the match up??????????

gees wilks, I was trying to make the guy feel better about having a Z and you come and just crush em:devil:

It does depend on the porting, because not everyone has a drag porting job. If the R had a Low end port job it may not drag race as well against a Z.

The guy that does all my motor work Drag raced Doug Gust once. He was at a race and the winner got to drag race Doug Gust. Doug was there to promote the then new PC2000 cylinders. Well Gary, my engine builder, was about to race him when Doug said, "your going to smoke me, cause my engine is setup for MX". Sure enough, Gary smoked him on his 250r that was drag ported.

So there is a big difference in porting and what it's being used for. So it's not out of the realm of possibility that if he raced an R, the Z could win.

Someone posted a Video on here a week or so ago of a ?250R? or a ?Banshee? (crappy video feed), a 400ex, a raptor, and something else.

It was hilarious, It was a drag in sand. But the Raptor just smoked everything out there. I was on the ground laughing histarically!!! So my bro watched then he started laughing!

That Rapterd must have had a ton of work done to it. Or that was one sick 2 stroke!

Well I understand that you were but I was wondering if z400 guy was?

I would pit equally modded 450r's with equally modded z400's anyday. That is just about all rider! The 450R might have a slight advantage but very little.

yeah, I had a 440ex built to the moon, cousin has a piped raptor, another buddy has a z400 piped, other cousin had a 400ex piped, and another had a stock banshee.

piped 400ex beat the z400 piped
raptor beat pipe 400ex
440ex beat raptor
my 250r now walked the 440ex.

what does it all mean? 250R's haul @ss

the raptor is now getting a big bore kit and cam. We'll see how they stack up in the spring.

reason everyone went to the 250r is because:

Its in the 250r section

seriously i cant believe there is any notion a z400 would beat a ported, piped, and carbed R, hell even the yfz and trx450's have trouble with pipes and cams.

My vote goes to the 250r. Like stated you cant drag a stock 250r up against a piped z. But if you have a pipe and a couple mods it will beat your average Z. If you big a ported, bored, carbed, piped R up against about any Z you will also win.
