I bought a new powder coating set-up and this was my first attempt. It worked out good other than a few thumb prints (from fumbling around when it was hot), and not having the metal preped good (I was in a hurry). Now I guess I am ready to shoot a few of my quad parts. Here are a few pictures.

No, i really did powder coat this stuff. That is my buddy being an idiot.

And for the guy above that ask about price, the gun and stuff isnt that bad but after you add everything up: gun, powder, cleaner, plugs/caps tape, hoppers, air compressor, regulator, temp gun, oven and everything it adds up fast.

oh alright haha

ive been looking into a gun, just something to do small parts. can you get a picture of yours? let me know how you like it, how much you payed for just the gun and its related parts not the compressor and oven and all that crap if you dont mind me asking. what color is it? it looks almost like a black chrome?

looks good. keep it up. i was suprised how easy it was to get good results. make sure you bake it for the proper amount of time tho, cause i have a few probs with undercuring on a thing or two. i was told to wait the amount of time the powder container says once the metal reaches the temp. but i don't know how to tell, so i just let it go for an extra 5 mins or so, and that seems to work good. here's a pic of some stuff i did for my new yfz yesterday. i did the pegs, motor mounts and fender brackets, and i did the heat shield today, and polished the shifter and brake lever. i think im gonna polish the oil tank when i change the oil for the first time.

The first time around I pre-heated the metal and then pulled it out and coated it. It was too hot when i coated it and i only had it in the oven 1/2 the time i should have. The next one i did i let it cool more before i started coating and it worked better. The color is Mirror Black. I have several other colors i need to try. I bought a temp gun ($100) that i can take readings of the metal with.

Here is the kit i bought. They are $150 with what is pictured. Then i bought a compressor, regulator, temp gun, powders, plugs/caps, tape, cleaner, and a used oven. I have over $500 in everything. If this works out good for me i am going to build an oven (for frames) and buy a good gun and stuff.

sounds good. i looked into getting heating elements and controls for an oven shell i have. the shell 9ft long X 6ft wide X 8ft tall, and the heating guy said i would need about 100kw of heating elements, which ended up being like $3000. not to mention the power it would pull. but it would be much less for an oven just large enough for a quad frame, which i think i'm gonna try and build later this year.

Im looking to get into powder coating/ Autobody painter for custom paint jobs. Powder coating would be what i want to learn to do first. What are the brand names and details of all the equipment, also some prices if you dont mind me asking ofcourse. Thanks.

I've got a set of side covers in the oven right now. I'll post pics when they get out and cool.

I am getting a lil better. now if I think i will start shooting good parts.

These are just some old side covers i had laying around. The clutch side one has a small hole in it and the stator side one has some jb weld on it (not glitches in the powder coating). Anyway, they look better in person. this weekend I will shoot some mirror red, royal blue and chevy orange.
