300ex is an awesome trail machine, I don't think you'll need all the power of a 330 , make it a 315 with a cam and jetting and it will rip compared to stock.

Funny you ask. I just had a conversation with Jason at LRD and he was saying that anything over a 309cc kit for a 300ex will run into overheating problems. He said the only way to safley go over 309 is to go to a stroker motor.

maybe sell it and buy a 400? but the reverse is nice.

if you get and oil cooler it will help with overheating:D

He said the oil coolers don't help enough, it would still be unreliable.

Well first I must start by saying this is my opinion and others may disagree. I personally have had bad luck with the 330ex motor. I personally have had 2 of them and had problems with both motors. Most people say the 330ex is very reliable but I beg to differ. First motor may have been my fault, had the rev lmiter removed and it may have seen slightly too many revs. It broke the rod and in the end result traches the bottom end completely and the piston camer up and smacked the head. I was in a bind for a motor quickly so I bought an identical 330ex motor ( TC kit). The 2nd day of our Glamis trip a chunk of the piston ( Tom at TC grinds down on top of the ring lands so it clears the head gasket, that's where it broke) broke off and got smashed between the head and piston quite a few times. Fortunately we brough a spare quad along ( bone stock 400ex). After the trip I put it back together to 300cc's and it still ran good ( not as strong but better than a 282cc motor). I sold it and bought a 400ex but I still think alot of the 300ex's. Personally I'd go with a 300cc ( or in that ballpark) motor and stroke it if you want to go bigger than that. Good Luck.
