Got the 86 torn down getting some fresh powder coating. Took the jug off and noticed the piston has some hair line cracks on it. Still on the stock bore I believe. Any suggestions on what size to bore it out to? I ride about 50-50 tracks and trails.

go to the next over bore .10 or 66.25mm (same diff)
bore it hone it buy a new piston, my reccomendationm is to buy a pro x,(art makes pro x and honda pistons) get a wrist pin bearing too. while your at it check the connecting rod play on the crank with feeler gauges.
stay away from seizco ;)

buy the piston first, i always go in .20 increments but thas jus my pref. anyways take the new piston with the jug to the machine shop and tell the person u want it bored to that piston. its the only way to make sure its perfect.

Beerock,
You say stay away from wiseco, just wondering why?

for stock jugs, pro x is the way to go.
expansion contraction rates are quicker with the cast.
and its jmo

I like to hear different opinions on parts with an explanation of why.
Thanks

http://www.esr250.com/250r_various.htm#cylinderspacer is the ESR website that has the bigbore pro x pistons. I tore my 330 stroker down over the weekend and i had some scuffs on my piston and on the cylinder on the exhaust side so i will be getting my piston from them. the price range was $139-149. Here are the details that ESR had on the pistons NEW PRO-X PISTON KITS COME COMPLETE, WITH PISTON, RINGS, WRIST PIN, & CIRCLIPS.
SIZES: 72-80.5mm, IN 0.5mm INCREMENTS. I had never heard wisco was better then pro x but if the cast expands quicker then i can see where that would definetly cause problems. the only way to get around that is make sure you give your motor plenty of time to warm up when you start it and go riding.
