The stock frame comes painted, and it obviously cracks a bit in places or gets worn off but nothing serious. That might tell you how long that will last.

It should look pretty good for a few years anyway. Powdercoat is just thicker and harder to chip and wear off. My bike was an 02 before I stirpped it down but I tear the sh@# ot of it. I wouls say 2-3 the paint would look good as long as you are not throwing to many rocks at it.

I painted mine last year with rim paint from an automotive shop.
it sucked, flaked off before I had the bike finshed.
she's all powder coat now and ready for asembely this week.
if you can I sugest powder all the way $$$$

clutt225, how did u get your motor looking that good...what did you do to the head pipe? getting mine ceramic coated

clutt225
02-09-2005, 09:22 PM
The head pipe is a brand new dmc.
The motor well that took some time, strip the paint off with chemical furniture stiper, then diferent size coton wheels & buffing compond and alot of patience.
I still don't know if it was worth it!

How much of a pain in the arse is it to disassemble the bike and reassemble it for powdercoating, and roughly how long does it take both times! i wanna do it but, only dread taking it apart?

i took apart my EX in one day,and re assembly took about 3 for me,because there was alot of cutting the PC away because it was so thick which is good.I'm only 16 and i put the whole thing toghter and torn it down numerous times alreayd just because i was bored, its fairly easy, get a whole bunch of lil baggies and mark everything and make it nice and organized:devil:

Not really that bad. It is less work than you think it would be. I took mine apart last April and had the frame painted. It really wasn't bad. The hardest part for me was gettking the motor back in without scratching the paint, but it's a 2 man job. As I took everything off, I put the bolts, bearings, nuts, etc into bags and labeled them. Pretty easy. I don't have any finished pics, wasn't my camera:D, but here are a few.

Not sure if that was directed towards me or not but, it's Translucent Blue. It's automotive paint. I should have done my swingarm, not really sure why I didn't:confused: My buddy paints airplanes for Raytheon so he brought home some tools and painted my quad and my ledofthezep's shee. Here's a pic of the shee:D

clutt225 that is one of my favorite graphic kit

clutt225
02-12-2005, 07:12 PM
It's geting kind of old, the graphics are good but the seat has a crack in the side. It was the first thing that went on the quad back in 01. So hey pretty dam ruged I have to say.
The number plates on the rear fenders are custom printed on the same type of sticker. I think they went on in 03.

As far as the pipe, I dono never rode with it yet. Bike hasn't got foot pegs or brakes yet.
Just need a little more time.
It's to muddy out on the railway bed behind my house right now.
I will wait for it to re freeze or dry up be fore I test and tune.
I'm not going through all this to get muddy on the first day out.
It will hapen, just not right away.

what is the mod list neway?

clutt225
02-13-2005, 03:53 PM
I was waiting for sombody to ask that. It's all show and no go.
Houser +2 a arms
works triple rate with rezies
DG Nerfs & bumper
909 cr bend bars with custom billet bar clamp
motion pro crap clutch lever
WB brake block off
CFM oil tank and air box
OMF air scoops
Maxxis razzors
RPM dominator +4
foot pegs double wide custom
K&N filter and Dyno jet kit
DMC Alien full pipe
Dura blue rear strut (on the way)
RTC levers (on the way)

The motor is completly stock and unopened. Wife says if it aint broke can't fix. I did compresion and leak down and it is just like new. I've kicked the crap out of it since delivery Nov 2000.
But I allways use OPTI 4 or Bellray Thumper since new.
I guess it works. This year was suspension, next year motor.
And I will be looking for advise, because every 440 that I've been around blows head gaskets like mad. I want power but I want it RELIABLE.

clutt225
02-13-2005, 07:06 PM
I was just lookin at that pic.
I might Powder coat my air scoops black or black crome (the colour on the DMC heat shield).
What do you think?
