I just started riding this past summer and I have tried to pull wheelies a few times but (yes i'll admit it) I'm a little scared to flip over, I'm sure it will happen sooner or later but any tips. I have a hard time telling how far back I am. I ride a 400ex (with a 426 kit)
Thanks

You wont flip over cause of the grab bar, And don't be affraid just member the ground is only a couple inchs away from you when your pulling the wheelie, but some cool ways is to put your foot on the grab bar punch the gas just a little to get it up where you want it then find your balance point then you should be able to learn to ride them that way..

And also a 400ex with a 426 kit, dont you think you should start our with something more you can handle?

Guess people these days just buy and ride, cause there is alot of 13 year olds riding 400ex on this forums

when you are attempting a wheelie remember, always put you foot on the rear brake, then just jump on the back and give it gas at the same time, if you have a smaller quad like a 90 or a 250 practice, thats what i did and i can ride wheelies for as long as i want, so just pracitce and when you feel like you are going back to far just let off the gas a little bit and tap the brake it will trim the quad down tords the ground. HAVE FUN!!

when I started riding wheelies, I was scared to fall off the back also. but after you fall the first tiem, you'll relize it doesn't hurt at all. my suggestion is to pop the front end up as high as you can, I know you'll be scared but just do it, once you fall of once or twice you'll see it isn't bad and you'll be able to find the balance point easier. of cousre I'm talking about doing this in first gear going slow on grass or dirt, not pavement!!

my tip is know where your brake is and just hit it up grab the brake drop it a few times. because i dont care how far you are back if you got the monemtum it will bring it back. thats how i started now i can stand it up and balance it without moving for up to 6 seconds, and ride 5th gear wot wheelies one handed.
DONT BE SCARED

Well you might laugh at this but it worked for me...... sit on your quad, have someone hold up the front of your quad on the balance point....and have them just hold you there for about 5 mins...at first its pretty freaky but then you get a sense for where the quad needs ot be....then go out and try to wheelie.....I learned in 1st gear, and was also afraid to fall off the back, but it happened and ever since then i havent worried about it.... Back brake works wonders!

So find when your quad likes to take off and make lotsa torque .. The "powerband' if you will.. To start out just put 1 foot on the grab bar till you find the balance spot.. Get used to it... Hitting the brakes.. shifting.. taking a hand off the bars.. taking a foot off the pegs. Screw around some and then try your sit downs.. :scary:

hmm, if you took the 30 seconds it took to talk sh*t to look in dudes profile it says

BIRTHDAY: March 8, 1979

i belive that makes him about 25.

i know 13 year olds who could outride you any day, age doesnt mean anything dude.

anyhow, for riding wheelies, get into an open field and just clutch it up in 2nd gear or rip on it and pull up in 2nd and itll pop right up. if you start going back too far, work your foot brake to keep that front end where you want it. if i were you, id put it back on the grab bar for the hell of it just so you know what its like - it doesnt hurt...ive done it many times when i was learning to wheelie.

go with the people who said to put in back on the grab bar, seriously dont be afriad to put it on the grab bar its not bad at all its not going to flip, i have had mine go back on the bar goin down the road in 4th its a little scary but with a touch of the back break the front end will be down in a hurry. one tip is take you idle down when you first start wheelieing so if you do fall off you bike does take off with out you i learned that the hard way in ended up runing into a old trailer in my neighbors yard luckly he just laughted at me but that kinda thing can be alot worse just adjust the idle so it wont stay runing with out you pressing on it good luck

Thanks man! I dont want to give the wrong idea, I can ride. I'm just learning new things and the first thing i wanted to learn was wheelies. I can hold my own in the woods! Well i'm getting a new quad, so i have to get used to this one now. But I'm sure i'll be alright.

Not always true. :blah: :ermm: I had never ridden a z400 before hopped on it and could easily ride wheelies on it, same thing with a 450r and Yammi 450 :ermm: You just gotta be familiar with the balance point of a quad then you will be set

z400's are pretty good wheelie machines....in fact, if I was in the market for a new quad, that is probably what I would get.

No-handers for days.....they run so much better than my EX when the front tires are way up in the air....I love it.

Gratz on the quad!! Personally im not just a fan of suzuki and i like the feel of my honda more, its just all personal preference ;)

I dunno if i already said this, but im gonna say it again, this might sound funny, but to get a feel for the balance point, sit on your quad and have your buddy lift the end up to the balance point, and have him hold you at the balance point for about 5 mins, yes 5 mins no joke. this will get you use to how the quad is going to feel when you are riding it. My dad held up the front end on my quad just held me there, at first it was kind of freaky then it didnt bother me, ever since he did that i could ride wheelies farther, then i was scared to fall off the back. Well next thing i know i was wheelieng and fell off (1st gear no biggie) ever since there i have dramatically improved, started stunting and can ride a normally wheelie as far as i want, even riding double i can ride them as far as i want. You will get it, just will take some practice + time

Both of the quads you have had are good at wheelies. I firsty started riding wheelies on a 300ex which has to have one of the lightest front ends ever. But I started doing them from dead starts, just take off in first and throw it wide open and grab second. The quad should pull itself up and once you get the feel of it you will be able to ride them out. Like everybody has said its all about balance, once you find the balance point you can ride them as far as you want. If you feel like you are going to set it back on the grab bar hit the back brakes it will throw the end end down instantly. for some people it just takes time, once you find the balance point youll be riding them all over the place.
