Is it ok to mix brands of brake fluid? I installed new brake lines last night and i used Maxima dot 4 but i ran out while bleeding the rear brakes.I have Valvoline dot 4 in my shop.Is that ok? Cycle dealers are closed today and i want to ride.Let me know what you think.

It should be alright. By mistake I put dot 3 in mine one time and it worked fine.

DO NOT MIX DOT 3 OR 4 WITH DOT5...it will completely screw uop your brake system

Yes, I would not recomend mixxing different DOT, but brands should be ok, right? I relized my mistake after I had already done it, I went ahead and rode for the day but drained it all out the next day, it was a pain.

You can mix DOT 3 and DOT4. DOT 4 has a higher boiling point than DOT3, so if you mix the two, you lower the boiling point of the DOT4. DOT5 is silicone based and should never be mixed with anything else. It is OK to mix brands.
