Has anyone on here put a yzf motor into an aftermarket 250r frame? I'm wondering if it could come out as good as an aftermarket frame that was built for a 4-stroke motor in the first place? It would save me alot of money

ive talked to a few frame makers and they all recommend against it. the 4 stroke is much taller then the 2 stroke and i know the the crf motor sits more to the left in the frame and i dont think it would clear theupper left frame rail.plus you would have to do some rigging with the swingarm cause the motor needs the pivot bolt going through it like on the 86-87 R's but its not the same, cause like i said th emotor sits off to the left. i wouldnt waste my time because even is you make is fit, with all the frame butchering you have to do its no going to me as strong.

My buddy sent his frame to Rath Racing to put a CRF engine in (250r frame). Rath told him he wouldn't take on a project like that again, said it was too much work to get it made. Maybe buy a 250r geometry frame or something?

Just gotta be mean don't ya lou?:blah:

Spend the time to buy a frame already fit for 250r geometry but with a frame acceptable for a crf or yzf motor.

Damn you man. My bike is sitting on a table with the upper motor mounts on and the bottom bolt in... Thats it. Im waiting for my rear knuckle and new swinger chain guide, and then new bearings for the front end. Give me 2-3 more weeks. Its cold working in my trailer, even more now with snow.

We are going to have to see how that crf goes against a 13:1 and ported yfz. Glad your happy though with your build! It looks great, and it seems to make you happy.

Lou's CRF will win, hands down. :blah: Nah, really it seems the CRF still has the edge over the YFZ :(

So putting any type of thumper in a stock 250R frame is a bad idea?

EvilJester400EX

Yes. The upper frame rails are too low to accept the 4 strokes. However, you can buy a 250r geometry frame that will accept a 4 stroke.

I have a yz426 bored to a 440 in my arens 250r frame, I did all the work besides the welding, I'm in school for engineering. It came out great and my biggest cost was my carbon fiber exhaust and I only payed 250.00 for it new, a little fab work and It has been running strong for over a year. I can also remove my head and cylinder without pulling the engine ( try that one) yes you have to do some work on the swinger but the arens motor mount and headstay took very little modification. There is a post on here with pics of R's mine is the yellow one it has 400ex plastic and a carbon fiber hood, I carved that all myself also and it came out fantastic looks like it was meant for the R check it out.
