View Full Version : PA State Harescrambles RD.1 Flying Dutchmen

This Sunday Feb 6th is the first Rd. of the PA State Harescrambles series...
The race is located at the Flying Dutchmen in Pine Grove Pa. near interstates 78 and 81.

Due to the type of track and the icy weather, this will be a studded event.... Most ATV racers stud up the frt. and rear tires for extra traction and steering, it makes a huge difference..

Last year Chris Borich was our PA State Champion with Jarred McLure finishing second in the A class....

I'll be at the race with my son Jacob talking to the racers and taking some pics for ATVRiders.com... I'll do my best to cover the event and report the action early next week...from what I'm hearing its gonna be a full house, all the GNCC regulars from D6 are gonna be there for a last minute shake down before heading to TX. Hope to see u there!!

Later, J

how much snow do guys still have on the ground? would you be able to compete in the race without studs? and how long do you guys run for? I am thinking about making the trip from the pittsburgh area but i do not have tire studs and i don't want to buy them for one race because i hear there pretty pricey.

tamehart

I am going to guess the track will be pretty muddy on sunday. I wouldn't imagine you will NEED studs. I am not going to run them either. I believe it is a 1.5 hour race.

jlhughes750
02-04-2005, 07:44 PM
1.5 hours long, studs will be nice for the hard packed frozen turns, but you'll be fine with out...I got 3rd in A last year with out......no hills, flat mx style course, lotsa jumps, more turns than a track needs and its real high speed...kind of an ungroomed TT track....:D

Well this is about all u need for a race report...

Chris Borich got the holeshot and walked everyone!!!! He stopped on the 2nd lap and got fresh gloves, goggles, made some adjustments, waited for Smiley then took off again:) ....I don't think he really waited for him, it just looked that way!!!

Way to go Chris!!! Go get em in TX, show em how its done, this is your year!!!!

mud? This is one of my favorite parts of the track to race.. rolling table top to a single into the turn then a few doubles and singles in a row going down the straight!!!!

Check out how deep the mud is...I have a few pics of the other A class guys on the first lap.... I stopped taking pics cause the sun was to bright and the mud was so bad is was kinda useless!!!

Yes there is ice under that slime!!!

Can you say Mud? Icebergs? Yes it had it all this weekend at the Dmen, I do believe I had Frostbite and Hypo hermia :). I Saw ya Jay around the Last lap. I yelled to ya as I went by. Next year I will run studs and get some waterproof gloves!
I would just like to say Congrats to my friend JF400EX who took first place in the C-Class with his new 450R! WTG buddy!

Hey I read in another post that they changed the track a lil bit. Did they in fact change the MX track around!? I sure hope so, that would be really sweet. I start racing MX there in March and a track layout change would be nice!

I ran C, first time ever doing a HS. I wrecked back in the woods. My steering dampner vibrated off the steering stem and slipped down and locked my steering. I was wide open in second and clocked the side of a tree real good. I was doing good but had to ride two laps pretty slowly. I had fun though. Can't wait to try it again. Next time I will be more prepared though.

Here is what I was riding

tamehart
02-07-2005, 04:19 PM
I gave some guys at the track some Cardio Stack to try out. I heard positive responses from all of them. My friend that hasn't raced a Hare Scramble in 10 years also tried it out....after the race he asked where he could order a case...haha...

My hand is swollen up pretty good, but I am being taken care of by a few nurses in training here at Penn State....life is just so bad @ PSU...

Jasen....PM'd you

jlhughes750

another dale!!! Ron Dernoski (atvriders.com member) made a strong run at the C class title last year for both series' then backed off to help out at home with a new arrival. Ended up around 3rd in points for the year in 2004 then bumped up to the Vet class here in 2005.

Here you go Derno!!:D

a good friend of mine Mark Carman rode his 450R in the A class. He's yet another rider(i was one) forced into the A class by points because he did to well in the B class. So many riders in D6 get bumped to A and since there is no PRO class only A they have to race against some of the fastest GNCC Pro's...most of the time these guys get frustrated and quit, which for a while thinned the herd in D6 which sucks for the sport.....now its pickin up again which I'm pleased to see!!..............Mark got 8th on his stock 450R out of over 15 riders in A class. Took home some cash and a smile... Thats what its all about! A class riders have been wanting an AA class for years but D6 won't do it, maybe with the sport on the rise again they will??

Check out his stock mud collector (pipe)

No.. they only make you move up if you got a lot of points in the C class and won it by some insane amount last year...Like what happened to jay

when i started in 94 it was 4 strk. and 2 strk. 2 huge classes.

in 95 they made A and B classes...I won the B class in 95 and moved to A class late in the season. Had a few 3rds in points then won A class in 99!!
