was out riding the R last night, and it ran great, except the fact when i am running it in low 4th and low 5th it will all of a sudden die like its running out of gas. but it will start right back up again like theres nothing wrong. its got fmf pipe, cool head, bored .40 over, 188 main jet, needle on 3rd clip, and temp at about 40 degrees, any help from u pro's would be great thanks

does it idle o.k,? does it hav good poewr throughout all the rpms? it could b about anything from what u describe. i would check the plug and plug gap, make sure there are no air leeks. clean the carb an make sure the jets are all cleen, and make sure the float is set to the right level and moves frealy, check the coil, stator an cdi.... maybe do a compression check?

idles great, and the power seems sufficent and the compression is still good, my guess is some dirty carb issues

How are you mixing the gas?

188 jet sounds big for a 40 over R motor, is there any port work?

sound slike your bike is falling on its but when your in low to mid because its way to rich, try dropping the needle 2 positions, that should help if that works then put the neelde back to the middle position and try going to a 178, and work your way down to probably a 175. you should be around 175 with the neelde dropped one from the middle.

what carb are you running?

alright i will try that, the warmer it gets the more often it dies, i will check the plug change the needle and let u know what carb i am running thanks

I dont see how you have such a big main jet. My R is ported and polished by krank-it-racing, has boyesen rad valve, 40 over, and prodesign head with FMF pipe and k&n filter with outerware. Thats jetted for a 20:1 or 32:1 oil mixture. It was professionally jetted and runs GREAT! This is for warm weather riding in Indiana.

Jetting depends on air temperature, humidity and elevation along with what your motor mods are. Even slight changes in porting can require 1 or 2 number differences in jetting.

You need to do some plug chops on the main to get that adjusted and then do some plug chops at mid throttle to adjust the needle to the correct postition.

You can only take other peoples jetting as guidlines and adjust yours to your elevation, air temperature and humidity.
