Streetbikes....?

Ok well i've been contemplating for a while now if i should get a streetbike,well i have decided that i will get one,although im not to fond of the twist throttle,but anyway what are some good bikes for a first one?Anyone have them on here,some pix will be narly too

1000 cc series bikes are ALOT of power especially for a firsttime buyer of a streetbike. I have friends who have sold there 954 and R1's to go back to a 600 because they have more fun on them

the 600's are a very quick bike and all someone ever needs. I drove my friends r6 a few months back for the first time on a street bike and im going down this country highway at night and I decide to look at speedometer becaus eim getting comfortable on it and I see that I am doing 150 mph. I realized then that im not ready for it because it only felt like I was oging about 70. Speed limit was 55

i have wanted one since i was 18 and then i found out that for a f4 honda 600 it was about 1300 a year i think....or every 6 months......i cant remember fully. im 20 now and dont plan on buying till im 22 or older

Seriousley dont get a 1000 as a beginners bike. Most people would say get a ninja 250... but thats kinda small and u would get tired of it real quick. I would get a 600...they are way more than you would think of them being!

i HIGHLY dought you were doing a 150, i sence a lot of exageration. I dont care what your driving , 150 is never going to feel like 70. You ever do 80 or more on a snowmobile? thats fast. PFF 150 felt like 70, gimme a break

When going high speeds on a bike it doesnt really feel you are going that fast.. Ive done 135 and it sure as hell doesnt feel like it.. It seriously does feel more like 80-90 mph.. Truth be told it is very stupid going that fast and theres no need for it.. But on the open road sometimes you gotta wooooo..

I can relate to that me and my dad were driving a jaggy once,and we were doing a 100 and didnt even feel like it,good thing it was just a rental for the weekend,lol haha but ye i can kinda see that you can go fast and not even realize it

Suzuki SV 650 or Yamaha YFZ600. a GSXR,CBR,ZX,YZF R-6 is way too much bike for the street. they are built for the Pro's not for chumps. not to mention, insurance on ANY street bike is ALOT OF $$$$$. the SV and YFZ are good to learn on and then advance. FYI a GSXR 600 makes an SV 650 look like an rabbit next to an elephant. the SV is a cool bike and is reliable, plus it's a little cheaper.

I agree with that the SV is a very good bike to learn.. But i dont agree about the bikes being to much for the street.. Its all in the rider if you dont respect the bike then its 100 times more dangerous than it already is and then YOU shouldnt be on that bike on the street to begin with.. My first bike was the gsxr and i learned perfectly fine.. But insurance will kick your *** tho.. That is the downfall!

Im warning you once you get a bike you will be hooked 4 life. Just like quads. me personally, I started out with a small ninja 250. I learned to ride, turn, and drive it around town. Insurance on the 250 wasn't that bad either. (if you put it in your dads name)

Most states won't allow someone under the age of 18 operate a bike over 600cc's and most insurance companies are not going to insure you.

Yes i do know that about the age limit,and hell yes i kinda figure it will be a b!tch to get insured....18 year old and streetbike...lol they don't match up to good

Don't get me wrong I like street bikes but there is way too many crazy drivers out there on the roads for me to own one. All it takes is one dumbass not paying attention and cut out in front of you and it's all over:eek2:

This morning a local airport(5-10 mins away) a plane didnt have enough speed and crashed right across the highway into a building,the building next to it was Bergen Community Techincal School i think,but i Def no it is a skewl,but my point is,a guy died waiting in his car at a red light,nothing is safe anymore,that is the last thing i would expect,a friggin plane coming at me

Well if you've never ridden a bike before , start with something small like a Ninja 250 . Use it for as long as it take for you to get comfortable on a bike then sell it .... they hold their resale value cuz theres always someone looking for a beginner bike . After that , I'd move up into a 600 series . My buddy has a ZX 600rr and it's FAST . I couldn't see myself owning anything higher than a 600 . All the manufacturers are making great 600 series bikes .... so which ever you choose , will be a great bike .

Good luck with insurance though .... I called asking about it for me being 21 years old and on a 600cc ..... over $6000 a year . Thats more than half the price of the damn bike .

Thats what I said . I was able to buy my buddy's ZX 600rr with a full Akropovic (?) exhaust , damper on the streering , extra set of wheels and tires for the track , full leathers , flush mounts , different windshield and more for less than $6000 . So when I called mine and asked about the insurance , I almost dropped dead . His insurance had jumped up by $4500 .... the reason he was selling the bike . One speedign ticket and he was screwed .... he fought it in court and won , so he's keeping the bike now .

$6000 CAd is $4850 US . :p Still a chit load of cash for insurance on something I'd be using maybe 4 months out of the year , but still have to pay the full amount . I wasn't gunna be able to do monthly payments .... they wanted the cash up front before I signed the papers .

Honestly don't start out on a crotch rocket. My best advice would be to find something older and learn on it. I was the first person in my grade throughout my entire high school to own a street bike. My dad being a fellow biker let me buy one right when I turned 16. I ended up buying a 1989 Kawasaki 454LTD. It was the perfect beginner bike. Very low seat height, belt drive, six speed, two cylinder, and looked a lot like a Harley sportster. My insurance was only $112 a YEAR, though it was under my parents insurance policy. My next bike was a 81 KZ650 which is another great bike to learn on. I have ridden dozens of street bikes and I think the best 600cc crotch rocket is the Honda 600F4I. Another sweet bike once experience permits is the Kawasaki ZX9. Just remember when you do begin and start riding I always remembered my dads tip, Expect the worse. So when your riding always keep your eyes fully intent on the road!!! You wouldn't believe how many dumb *** drivers out there will see you but still pull out. Be ready to brake and swerve at any moment but on top of every thing. HAVE FUN!!!! It is truly an addiction!!!!

i will have to see,i would defienly like to get one,hey one ? though i have ridden my friends derbi and the clutches on them absoulety suck,how are they on the bikes,do your hands get numb after awhile because i do have a pinched nerve in my upper left shoulder area and after a long days ride i can sometimes feel it go numb,i remeber two summers ago,every morning i woke up my whole left arm was compluety numb,i hate that feeling...so just wondering if they are easy...are they hydro clutches?

i have a pretty sweet cbr 600 F4i, and i think that you should definatley get a bike... to save on insurance just pay for the bike with cash,and just put liability on it..thats what i am doing and i only pay $550 a year for it, and i am 19....

Think of it, if you crash the bike, that thing will be totalled anyways, and you will never be able to get insurance on one again..lol... so just do it the cheap way wtf

Okay Okay......Personally, for those who suggest 600's rather than the bigger bikes....I can't really say I agree. The big bikes are a fair amount faster, BUT the 600's aren't slow.....You can get killed on one just as easy as you can on the other.....

If you have a good head on your shoulders, and know how to drive within your abilities you'll be fine on any bike. If you are an idiot that can't control yourself, I don't suggest getting ANY bike other than a moped.

Seriously, the rider controls the bike....not the other way around.....a 1000 is no harder to ride than a 600......

Anyway, I have a CBR 929, and after riding a big bike, there is no way I could go back to a 600 without missing it. No, I am not the best rider in the world, and I can NOT push the limits as far as all around riding on a 600, but I CAN in a straight line, and I find that to be one hell of a rush...even if you don't go over 70mph.

Just my thoughts.....I'm not suggesting for you to buy a 600 or a 1000, or a 250......buy what will make you happy.....if you just want a bike to cruise around on and you don't care about getting goosebumps whenever you crack the throttle, any will do.

i started on a suzuki gs500e when i was 15, then moved up to a cbr 600 f4 rode it for 2 years then bought a 929rr.i am very glad i started with a small bike because i actually learned to ride without being intimidated.as for insurance i pay 300 dollars a year for liability and i'm 22.i have a picture if someone would post it for me.

im 14 about to turn 15.. when i was 13-14 we had a katana 600 that i rode all over here but was not enought power.. but a honda cbr600rr, yamaha R6, or the kawasaki ZX-6RR....a 600cc race bike is all you need for your first one.. you dont need a 1000 the fastest bike on the market and go kill your self...
