My friend just got a 05 KFX400. The other day i raced him and it pulled ahead by alot.I have a 04 Z400. I was just wondering where i could get the 05 cam or what other cam would u recomend. Also if i chose to get a hotcam would it be alright with just an intake cam and not the exhaust cam?Would i have to rejet?

My friend runs a Z400 with between 40-50 h.p. on stock bore. He uses Stage II Hotcams. Intake / Exhaust. Both of these work really well. He raced a stock 05 z400 and it wasnt even a challenge.

my cousin has a Z400 and he put in a hotcam stage 2. intake only. he had to do some rejetting only because he has fmf titanium exhaust and the k&n fliter, pro design spacer, k&n powerlid. so i would say that with just adding the intake cam you could get away with not rejeting it, but it wouldnt hurt to rejet either.

Wow thats pretty good considering doug gusts z-450 makes about 50 horse.

i dont understand why you would have to rejet with a new cam?

Well with a bigger than stock intake cam you're getting more mixture into the cylinder. So why not add more gas to that mixture? When you do, you will have a bigger combustion, thus more power.

because that mixture going in is already predetermined by the carb to be the right amount before the cam change, and all the cam is doing is keeping the intake valves either open higher or longer, so adding more fuel will make that already good mix richer.

edit- i'm not 100% sure im right but this is the only way i can make sense of it right now.....

well you see, you get statements like that when you run across people that add mods to there bike and they read on the box and it says will add 5-10 hp, well what they do is they gather all there boxes then they take those numbers and they add them up and then there like holy crap i got another 20 horse from my cams, exhaust and filter, then they proceed to run around telling everybody that, but little do they know if they were to dyno there bike they'd only have like 35

9.9 times outta 10 you do not need to rejet for a cam change so your right

no jetting with cams as previously stated, but if your going to get just one, get the intake. many xc racers just run an aftermarket intake cam anyway as it gives you more torque and brings the power on earlier
