I used to think Wiscoe was the way to go? but i see alot of people going with the JE pistons? is there ia differnce? Does JE just make pistons for the bigger bores like 440s and such?

....sorry im a bit of a noob when i comes to engine rebuilding....

Either go with a JE or a Ross piston. They are the best ones

I would go with CP pistons...

Go to yfzcentral.com

PM asher tell him that I sent you.. he'll hook you up

a lot of yfz guys will only run cp pistons...

i have a 400ex not a yfz!? im wondering is Wiscoe pistons are crap??? Im canadian and know i can get my hands on Wiscoe pistons kits and wondering if it is worth my time to get a JE kit?
...and what makes the one better then the other?

I have a wiseco in mine. They are by no means crap. Its just that the wiseco pistons dont have the compression that they claim, because the wiseco pistons were made for the XR 400 which has thinner gaskets, to achieve the 11:1 where as if you put that same piston in an EX you will not have 11:1 compression because of the thicker gaskets. The JE and ROSS pistons are closer to their advertised compressions.

do you have the 416 with 11:1 compression?

standard bore with 11:1, I didn't see a need to shorten my cylinder life for like 1/2 a horse. I really wanted this thing to be realiable above all else, plus this way I can always have the option of boring it so I can keep this cylinder/sleeve longer.

just because he advertises his shop on a yfz site doesn't mean he doesn't sell parts for a 400ex ...

lol

go with the JE piston they not only build pistons for atv they build them for high performance motors as well. wiseco does to but the JE is suppose to be a top of the line piston

i think i will just get a wiscoe piston 11:1 comrpession on a standard bore. should add some power? combined with HMF full system and a UNI filter.

Definitely will, I also added a stage 1 hotcam too and its worlds better.

Rico has a 416 that just needed the top end refreshed, the old one lasted 3 years. I don't know the details but his piston was still able to be reused after it was bead blasted. I don't see anything unreliable about that.

I didn't say they weren't, but technically speaking a thicker cylinder is going to last longer, plus now later down the road I can have mine bored little by little to get the most life out of it as possible. I agree that if built right a 406 or 416 is still very reliable.

JE or Ross. Weisco are known for not being the compression that the piston is stated to be...

je and wisco are one in the same tho compenys merged 2 years
ago the je has a better hard coating than the wisco but you cant
go wrong with either one

yes they are owned buy the same but NO they are not one in the same, they are still two completly different pistons nothing has changed and neither one has a harder coating than the other, JE is the better choice and it's called Wiseco
