Hey i was just wondering does a shop have to install a 416 kit or can it be done by the regular guy in his garage? any special tools needed? thanks

Its a pretty simple job to do. A good service manual will help out alot. The only problem would be boring the cylinder to fit the larger piston. The only way I know to do that is to take the cylinder to a machine shop. Good luck...

So to put a 416 in a 400 the cylinder def needs to be bored.. That was pretty much the only thing i wasnt sure of.. I havent really read up on it yet.. thanks!

Yes, it definatly needs to be bored. Everything else you should be able to do yourself. I took my cylinder to a local machine shop and it was ready for me the next day. You shouldnt have a problem finding a shop to bore it.

a bore and hone runs $40 at my local shop, and just a honing runs $15. The prices vary so for a bore and hone expect to pay anywhere from $35 to $60.

With a good service manual you can do the job breakdown and install yourself. I wouldn't consider these to be special tools, but if you don't have these either borrow or buy a rubber mallet and torque wrench. The rubber mallet maybe needed to tap your barrel in orde to get take it off. The torque wrench you will definitely need for the reinstall. Also, make sure you read your torque setting clearly.
